Bass Driver DI vs VT Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Love them both but in the end I sold the VT and kept the BDDI - before that I made a little video comparing the two:

YouTube - Tech 21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI (BDDI) vs VT Bass Character series (Ampeg sim)

recording quality is not all that peachy but better than some!

I A/B'd the both of mine (BDDI programmable and VT Deluxe) and found I could get a pretty much identical tone that I used on the BDDI with the VT. That was a happy moment for me

I have the Programmable BDDI (same as the BDDI above, but with three channels) and the VT Bass.

I use the VT Bass on 75% of the stuff I do. However, I occasionally use BOTH.

I have a channel on the PBDDI set up to boost the bottom end of the VT. It sounds pretty fat and filthy. It sounds great in the right context.

I could live without one of these boxes... but I don't have to.

Never thought of using both at once. But I don't have enough room on my board for the BDDI.

I was using my BDDI (Mk I) plus a Tri-AC (on bass settings) for boosting, and different tones. Just did a trade (Thank you, Kringle77) for the Tri-AC for a PBDDI.
That gives me four separate "Ampeg" type tones at my feet.
BDDI on all the time, and then add boost or more dirt with the other one.

Still trying to work out how to get stuff on youtube to sound decent so I hope you could tell the difference!

I actually traded the VT Bass for a wren and cuff Phat Phuk... which is a nice little warming device, though I found it actually had a similar effect to the BDDI on low gain - maybe I could have got some milage running the BDDI into the VT, or vice versa!
