Bass Driver vs. VT Pedal for early Dee Dee

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm trying to get close to Dee Dee Ramones early, fuzzy sound. The self-titled album sound. I'm playing through an Acoustic B600H and Carvin 2x12s, but I need to roughen up the sound without going over-the-top fuzz pedal/distortion. I've been looking at the Bass Driver and the newer VT Pedal and wanted to get your opinion on which would get me closer to that raunchy sound. Thanks!

I should add that I *might* trade my Acoustic head to a local guy for his SVTPro-3 (US) in a week or so. Maybe that'd get me there, but I haven't had a chance to demo it yet.

I play in a punk tribute and the bass driver works great for this. I have the three channel one - the first is set for the typical gritty punk tone, and the second is a more distorted tone for "Should I stay or should I go" by the Clash or other stuff that needs it.

I'm sure the VT would work just as well, but then you won't have the balanced XLR jack and all the other bells and whistles.

Even if you change to an Ampeg SVT3pro you will still need a pedal to get fuzz or distortion. As an SVT3pro owner it has some growl, but far from what I would call fuzz or distortion.

Ah cool. Thanks guys, just the advice I needed. I was on the fence about switching heads when mine functions just fine and has all the power I'd ever need. I'll see about grabbing up a bass driver pronto.

VIVA DEE DEE!

Bass Driver vs. Programmable Bass Driver

OK, here's a follow-up: Any notable tone or feature (aside from the obvious) differences between the regular Bass Driver and the programmable one? I've found a programmable version that is close in price to the standard, one-setting model. Thanks again!

None, really. They both sound the same.
