Bass Effect on 'Snortin' Whiskey...'

Hey, have been working up this tune for one of my bands; great bass lines by Mars Cowling.. any clue as to what the effect he is using is? It is subtle but there is something going on there, I think... pretty sure he was playing a P-Bass as well...

I will take a WAG, and say perhaps a very small bit of compression/limiting. There is definitely some growl there too.

Agree that it is a killer track.

It may just be my ears picking up something from the guitar but it sounds like it has some light chorus or phaser on it.

mars never went for effects live, but might have had chorus on some songs on that album...that was the "new" thing back then, which led to complete overuse of it within a couple years.

that was a flanger, big time. I've done this tune in band (when I had hair) - flanger does the trick.

Yeah, I think that's a flanger and a bit of overdrive either from an amp or him just plucking the hell out of the P bass and overdriving his signal!

Have to listen to it again but I believe he also used a flanger on Crash n Burn and at least the beginning of Born Under A Bad Sign.

I was luck enough to see Mars playing with Travers twice back in 93 (?) and he was just amazing. His right had was brutal! They were so tight and by far the loudest band I've ever seen. It was a small club but if I recall he had 2 Genz Benz 2x15's and at least 1 4x10. My buddy ask Mars if he ever played fretless an he said "no, I'm too deaf!". Yeah no wonder, I would be to playing at that volume for all those year!

Flanger is what I meant, not phaser. I don't use many effects and I always get the 2 confused.
