Bass Effects

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone out there know of a easy to program bass effects the doesn't have a million sounds nobody wants? I am what you would call a old school bass player, but would like the option of a delay, chorus, and reverb.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

You could try something like a Line6 Verbzilla or a Visual Sound H20, but to get all three, you will probably need to get a-multi-with-way too-much-stuff or three different pedals.

I recommend a Line6 M9. It has way more than you need, but it is very easy to program and has many reverbs, delays and modulations to choose from. Find a few you like the best and you're on your way.

Check out the Boss or Zoom multi effects units, 1 of them is sure to please, just turn off the modules you don't need.
Lesser expensive units offer fewer options and less control.

I found the Zoom B2 easy enough to use, quite decent sounding, and very affordable. If you want a little more flash and/or real time control the Line 6 M9 is very nice (with the exception of the filters, IMO) but costs quite a bit more.

You should take a look at Z.Cat pedals

http://www.zcatpedals.com

I have the Q-mod, which is chorus, phaser, flanger, tremolo, and reverb in one pedal-sized footprint instead of a big multi-thing. He makes a hold/delay/chorus with tap tempo (but no reverb). You could email him to ask about custom work. Anyway, the pedal I have sounds great, does not include any unnecessary stuff I would never use and the price was reasonable. It does not require any programming or menus and is easy to use.

The GT6B is great for what you describe. I does take some getting used to, and dialing things in is more complicated then using dedicated pedals... but it is a good unit. I wish I still had mine!

I have a Boss GT-6B and a Zoom B2. I'm more likely to grab the Zoom. Lots of patches, but once you find the one(s) you like, tune to your liking and forget the rest. Easy to configure, small footprint. All good.

I would look at something like the Boss ME-50. Quite a few effects, but with simple knob turning stompbox like control. No menus to hunt through or matrices to navigate.

I am in this school of thought myself, I used to have a yamaha rack guitar effects unit with a midi foot controller. I loved it, it had 10 presets with their own footswitch. so after the initial setup it was really simple on stage.

Since it died I haven't found anything that doesn't seem more trouble than it is worth. I guess I am just old and crotchety, I just don't have patience for futzing around trying to tweak a complicated multi-effect unit. A few pedals do it all and much simpler.

Still sorting mine out too. But I am figuring on a few "standard" pedals and a loop / blend and DI
The ZCat Pedals sound interesting too I might have to check them out myself

I was using this for some time but decided to part with it in favor of the Zoom B9.1ut. The boss was easier to program but I've never been a big fan of the boss stomps.. they don't sound good to me.
I find the zoom offers a better overall tone for my ears and it's almost half the price.

EDIT: and the built in pre-amp tube nice

The DBFX1 is similar in most ways to older Zoom pedals like the old 607 or the current Zoom B1X, not really up to the same level of quality and control as the newer B2 or B2.1u. The B2 is one to consider for price, variability & quality of effects and foot print. Unless you need the additional features of the B2.1u like xlr DI out, usb interface for recording and pedal for volume and other control well worth the additional cost IMO.
Don't let the user interface stump you I have a cheat sheet for the Zoom that makes it pretty easy to understand and use.
