Bass eq/enhancer effects pedals

Sign in to disble this ad
I am wanting to find a unique sound for my bass, but dont want a load of pedals just a subtle sound difference that i can taylor to my liking, although im not too intersted in distortion or overdrive.

I play mostly hard rock/metal using a pick, sometimes fingers and currently use an Ibanez GSR 200 and Laney RB4 amp.

Has anyone used or know a bit about the following pedals and their sound, and if they are worth using?

Electro Harmonix - Nana Bass Balls

Aphex - Bass Exciter

Behringer - V-Tone Bass BDI21

Boss - GEB 7

MXR - 10 Band Eq

MXR - Blow Torch

Any advice or help will be much appreciated, cheers

Keep up the good work!

The "coloring" effect I love the most is chorus. I use my Boss CE-2B almost all the time.

In all seriousness, you really should look into exactly what each of those pedals does. Two on the list do not belong there at all, and you'd know why if you knew what they do. One good approach is to search here for prior threads on each of those products; many threads even contain soundclips. Also all of the units you mention are commonly available at medium-large guitar stores, so you can go in and try them out yourself, which is the best option IMO.

How about the Boss GT-6B? It's not really high end but if your willing to take the time to learn how to use it you can get some cool sounds out of it. I have been using it for a few years and enjoy the versatility. The unit contains a bucketload of effects, whether they are as good as their single pedal counterparts I don't know, although the overdrive sounds about the same as my ODB-3. My only real complaint with mine is the wah pedal, though mine may have been faulty. It seemed like it was badly adjusted from factory and when I took it apart there wasn't much I could do about it. But when not in use as a wah it functions as a volume pedal. I liked the idea of having it all in one unit, even though all in one type units are generally of lower quality and more prone to failure due to added complexity. More stuff means more stuff can break. But the thing is relatively inexpensive so if it craps out I won't hesitate to toss it out.
