Question bass eraser

Sign in to disble this ad
several practice tools like the Tascam Bass Trainer, Pandora PX4D, but also the EBS Drome Combo amp and probably some others use a bass eraser function for play-along practice.

how does this circuit work technically ?
does it actually work ???

Alesis offer a Vocal Zapper - is a Bass Zapper/Eraser commercially available as a separate unit or maybe even as DIY project ?

It's a very basic function that drops out the frequencies in mixes that the bass traditionally occupies, right in the centre of the mix. So it doesn't work as well if the bass is panned, and you might find you lose the kick, as well as some of the bass frequencies of the other instruments. So it does "work", although it won't completely kill all of the bass sound (you'll still hear some of the higher frequencies), and the resulting track will sound a tad thin and hollow.

You'll probably find you can do it yourself if you have some music editing software with sufficiently advanced EQing functions.
