Brief and very personal assessment of the few flangers I had:

BF-3: decent sounding but a bit too artificial, but I did like the pan setting

SMM: interesting blend of flanger and chorus, but to my ears, it sounded a bit metallic

Marshall Regenerator 1: not a usual pedal around here, but an adequate flanger, if you can live with the typical Marshall sound. Not what I was looking for.

MXR micro-flanger: great sound, but I couldn't deal with the volume spikes.

Don't have a flanger at this time. Combining the chorus and phaser gives me a close-enough sound. And the board is full anyway.

Never count out the old BF-2. Simple, functional, great sounding, and can be had on the cheap...what's not to love?

I use a BF2 and have no plans to replace it. I bought it over the bf3 because people seemed to like the bf2s warmer sound where the bf 3 sounded colder (probably what ^ was talking about).

I've only ever played the one flanger pedal but it's a fixture if my board - take that as you will

I have a BF3. Honestly, I have no plans on replacing it or to try anything else. It does what I want a flanger to do.

I've always found that these bad boys slaughter the Boss flangers:

I compared my bf3 to a co-worker's bf2 and felt like the bf3 won hands down. The bf2 was noisier and had less effect with regen at a low setting. I like a body wave with a flanger, not so much treble swooshing above the bass tone. Of course that's just my opinion.

DOD FX-75B. Not a bass flanger, but it does bass well.

The Moog ClusterFlux is a phenomenal flanger, but it's boo-kooz expensive.

II guitar flander (about 25 years old) on my bass, my favorite Flanger sounds come out of it

I have loved my DOD bass stereo flanger since the 80s. Best one I ever played through.

I've tried so many, BF-3 just does too much. I love the pan, if I want a mellower flange I put it on the Standard setting. If I want ridiculous or just want to really cut thru I use the Ultra setting.
Bass and guitar inputs, stereo outs, hold function...

I bought it new when it 1st came out, and I simply can't replace it.
In fact I gave up even trying.

EBS UniChorus

EBS UniChorus. It's both a chorus and a flanger; both sound awesome!

I'm curious if anyone has ever tried the HBE Frostbite on bass? I'm looking into getting one, but don't have the cash right now.
