Bass + Fuzz + Significant Cash Influx = Sample Fun

There are 8 audio samples in the attachment. 1 clean and 7 effected. These 7 samples represent the following 6 fuzz pedals I've gotten in the last couple of weeks.

I rather liked the sound of the Ghost Effects Dizzy Tone as well as the Fairfield Four Eye'd Fuzz.
As Ghost Effects are in the UK I'll probably check them out in preference to the Fairfield, although I am gassing for Randy's Revenge.

Am I right with the assumption that the Fairfield tone is the only really usable one? The Boss really are a joke.

I really liked that Fairfield.

One or two settings are hardly enough to judge a pedal, but the fairfield is one of the more interesting pedals I've tried in a long time.

I fount that the Merkin was very input and power sensitive

Lower voltages and input signal sounded a whole lot better than running the bass volume full up with a one spot.
Running the pedal around 4 volts, bass volume rolled almost off and the pedal volume maxed sounded best to me.
Makes it a bit tricky to use in a typical set up though.

Agreed. The Fairfield seems a bit smoother to my ears and held the lowers better, but the Dizzy Tone had a nice 'raunchiness' to it.

The Muff sounded like a Muff. The Merkin sounded like crap (*ducks* I love Catalinbread's stuff, but...). Boss had a significant volume drop and muddying, but there might be something usable in there. The Creepy Fingers was 'meh' to me.

Fun comparision. They were all very different.

I'm not really saying I preferred the Ghost Effects over the Fairfield, just that they were the two that spoke to me.

I really liked the sound of that Fairfield. It immediately stood out.

But after a good deal of listening to the clips I have become hung up with that Dizzy Tone. It got a real nice character to it, like some kind of texture that I find very enjoying.

And well, allthough the Boss had the volumedrop, there is just something about it. Alltough it doesn't possess that almost crushing clarity in the low end; particularly like my other two favorites, it still seemed to be a good deal of bass in there. The lows had a fat and like boomy, punchy quality that I found especially pleasing to my ears, along with that crispy top.

I would be very interested in hearing the OP's opinion of the pedals, since he have had the experience of actually playing them. Like what pedals gave you the most enjoyment when playing it? Whats your favorite?

I crank the Volume on my FZ-2 and never have any real trouble with volume drop. Also, without the volume drop the FZ-2 I would have been the best to me

Awesome sound samples you got there. the boss fz2, the ehx big muff(civil war), and the cbread merkin sounded pretty cool. the guys from the industrial rock band orgy uses the boss fz2 on many of their songs.

I liked the Fairfield quite a bit. And of course a good old muff is solid. The rest...didn't really do it for me. Cool thing to hear them all in a row though; thanks grygrx!

nah, the dizzy tone is related to the burns buzzaround and also the tonebender mkIII and its variants, but is a lot more aggressive/angry than either of those circuits!

I liked the Fairfield the best as well - though I gotta say, I wasn't much of a fan of either tones.

But I guess you gotta hear those pedals through your rig and with a band to say much about them.
