I suppose that's wha they were going for, yeah. I haven't tried the metaphors, but the single-setting fixed compression and 2-band EQ turn me off. I'm not that into sansamp (when I want a tube sound, I use a tube amp) but I'd imagine they give your more flexibility/variety of tonal options.

Hehe, I totally read that without any help

Im actually considering useing the PDDI or VTBass for the bass/octave side of the stereo/dual rig im thinking of building. Im leaning more towords the PDDI cus of the DI more than anything.

LOL, I'm all over the PDDI cause I can use it for my acoustic guitar when I play it live too.

No.

I am not a big proponent of the BDDI, so for me considering the price the Metaphors is no better or worse than the BDDI. But if you love the BDDI (or even really like it) then you shouldn't even look at the Metaphors. It can shape your tone alright, and give your bass some different sounds, but it won't give you that amp in a snuff box feel that I'm guessing your looking at in the BDDI. Hope this was helpful.

I have a question. In doing a google search, there is an online retailer who is currently selling the Metaphors for $69.99. Given that information, is it worth the price?

I'm a pedal newb (after playing for 20 years without them), and I'm looking for something that will change the EQ of my bass for a couple of tunes, and also to put a little bit of hair on my tone for a couple of tunes. I have a very clean, slightly mid-range bumped tone most of the time (example here).

Will the Metaphors (at $70) do what I need?

you could do worse I suppose, but you could also do better.

nobody was really impressed when these came out.

I think the metaphors should do what you are looking for, it has a 3 band eq so you can bump the mids a bit as needed (something you can't do on the PBDDI) and there is a pretty basic distortion so you can add a little dirt.

Based on what you're looking for, I'd try some kind of boost. Like maybe an Electronix Submarine, which I believe is available to TBers for $65 shipped.

That said, for $70 you could always flip the Metaphors, so why not?

Another cheap Sansamp is the Hartke VXL. It uses the Boss style of transformer (I think EH uses a reversed kind), which might be handy if you are already using those types of pedals.

Sorry, Electronix, not Electrix. The builder is active on these forums.

There's a current thread on their stuff here.

I was not impressed with the Bass Metaphores. The EQ is only 2 band, the compression is lame, and the distortion is not very nice either. I didn't try the XLR. The Bass Blogger was pretty uninspiring as well. I did really like the Bass Big Muff though
