Anyone have any suggestions? If you need me to elaborate on what kind of tone i'm looking for, go to this thread, i've even posted a link to a song with the bass tone i'm looking to capture.

Bass overdrive.

I've always found the sansamp 2 band eq to suck a little of the mids out. Sure they can be tweaked for mids, but it's tricky. There's also the Boss ODB-3 if you like your OD more fizzy.

In live situations, that scooped bass distortion tone can be problematic. If you are in a one guitar band - a scooped mid distortion pedal setup could work just fine. The raunchy midrange distortion is what will get your bass tone to cut through live. Your tone will get lost in the thunder of the drums and the high end of the guitars without much in the midrange - especially with a loud drummer and two loud guitarists.

Having a separate rig to do distortion and another rig to do the clean bass tone is the way the pros do it live and in the studio. You get much more control overall with the final result. No worrys about low end loss, you can keep the definition & punch of your clean signal, and set the distortion rig to compliment your overall tone.

I suggest the Tech 21XXL - it's not much of an overdrive, but it would do the tone you want. It's a cool tone you are going for!

I play in a three piece band, with one guitarist, so that's pretty much the reason i wanted to experiment with that type of sound. It would be cool to bi-amp as well. Did you listen to the song i put on the other thread? And what kind of settings for the Tech 21 xxl would you recommend? (If you can)

Tech21 SansAmp Bass Driver DI. mids are a bit scooped out, with treble and bass knobs, nice fat tubey sounding overdrive.

Honestly, the Tech 21XXL is a limited pedal. It goes from some overdrive/distortion to much heavier distortion almost with a fuzz box characteristic to it. It does it's signature sound really well and has a few variations to it. Playing with the warp control is key. The Distortion content knob should be between 9 O' Clock and Noon and set the warp to taste. It's pretty easy to use. The tone knob just adds lows and after the "5" setting, it cuts high end without killing low end. Keep in mind all the way to the right it flat and moving it counterclockwise is the way to boost it.
