I am looking for something that mimics speaker distortion as opposed to tube amp distortion. What I am looking for is the sound that Felix Pappalardi used to get through Sunn amps with stacks of 2x15 cabs. In his words, "I've always envisioned bass as a huge ripping sound." He absolutely achieved that live. I've had lots of tube and other boutique pedals (Budda, Fulltone, etc.) but no joy yet. Suggestions? |

Tickets were $4.00 each. The bass was always way too distorted. They had to be real high to forget about it and enjoy playing. |

The BEST example of Felix's live tone is on the Atlanta Pop Festival 3-record set (don't know if it ever got turned into a CD). Mountain does a pretty different version of Stormy Monday and the tune turns into a jam that bears little resemblance to the tune itself, but LORD, is Felix's tone mammoth! Woof! Hearing Leslie and Felix and the way they communicated on stage is truly inspiring. |

There is a ton of good stuff there. I'd link it myself except I don't know which tunes and tones you're specifically looking for. When you find tracks that feature the sound you like, come back and link those vids in this thread. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
