I need some help identifying some bass overdrive tone. Not that it's revolutionary whatsoever, but it has that metallic overtone and a bluesy dirt that I'd like to reproduce.
I'm talking about THIS PARTICULAR SOUND HERE.
It has plenty of attack and some nice fret noises while remaining round and clear. I refer to it as "the overdrive sound you can use". An aggressive bass tone that doesn't mud the mix. Oh, and I do have some bass distortion/fuzz/overdrive pedals right now and I'm pretty happy with them. There's no need to talk about completely different sounds, but I guess any feedback is welcome!
Now, here are my guesses : - Ibanez Phat Hed PD7
- EBS Multidrive
- Tech21 sansamp
- Boss BD-2 w/ Keeley Phat Mod
I haven't heard any of these except for online audio samples. I also couldn't hear the AMT pigs anywhere.
Thanks for your valuable help!

| | | | Out of those im not sure exactly which it is because ive only ever had experience with the sansamp and the phat head.
I can tell you that its definitely not the sansamp, its too rough for it. It could be the phat head because it has a lot of bite but the other two im not sure.
Edit: Personally i think that that tone while not muddy on its own might not stand out in the mix too much. I don't know why i get this feeling but it seems to be lacking lows. Or maybe thats just my crappy laptop speakers. |

It doesn't sound like any Sansamp sound I've heard so far. I don't think the BD-2 or Multidrive are quite that grindy. It sounds a bit like the Landmine to me, but not 100%. Maybe the GK Diesel Dawg. |

Sounds more like a ODB-3 with subdued highs.

Here's another sample, which pretty much sums it up in terms of "fitting in the mix". It doesn't stand out, but it rather emphasizes the guitars distortion groove IMO. Well, at least, in a way of its own.
I've got enough pedals to make me stand out of the mix, now it's time to ROCK! HAVE A LISTEN! |

Thanks! |

Be careful with the gain and blend settings on the sansamp.
The only "problem" so-to-speak with the Landmine (I have one too on my board) is you cannot adjust the gain. It is always rip-your-head-off distortion. (Which I love too, but it's a little too heavy to get the sound in that clip) |

| | | | yeah sounds like the PD7
it's what I use and my sound is alot like that, except I run the 'attack' switch on 1 so it sounds abit more aggressive and I use a pick |
