I'm looking for that Tim Commerford (Rage Against the Machine) tone, and i am looking for a new distortion pedal to get his tone. anyone got any ideas?

P.S. I know that he hand wound his pickups, hand made his overdrives, and modded his amps out, but i was just trying to get close.

It's funny, this has all been addressed before soooo many times. Still, I will note, that the Timmy C "sound" isn't just about a pedal. I've been told on many occasions after a show that: "Man your distorted tone was so Rage Against...". The interesting thing is that this happens even after I'm using wildly different pedals and amps from show-to-show! I've gotten the whole Timmy C thing from Fulltone Bass-Drives, Xotic BB's, my EBS Valve Drive, a Mesa V-Twin and even a carefully eq'ed Muf- all of this through either an SVT, Fender 300pro or Mesa Buster amp.

I don't think it's so much about the gear as it is in your hands & Jazz bass. How & what you play is so much more critical!
