Bass Overdrives with top mounted jacks?

Sign in to disble this ad
Trying to downsize a bit and squeeze the essentials onto a PT-mini. Even an MXR sized dirt box like the B3K takes up more space (using George L's) than a Pork Loin. So while I'm not against a narrow OD with side mounted jacks, I think one with top mounted jacks would fit better.

My list right now is:
Way Huge Pork Loin
Way Huge Green Rhino
ProCo Turbo Rat
Aguilar AGRO

Any more?

I dig the Pork Loin but it's probably a little too low gain for my needs. The Green Rhino looks good but having had other bass modded TS clones (BB Preamp, Bass Drive etc) I'm worried that I'll be disappointed in it. The Turbo Rat just cuts too much low end. And the AGRO sounds good all out but I worry that it won't do low to medium gain as well as I'd like.

And yes, I know I'm incredibly picky.

fuzzrocious OSD -

http://soundcloud.com/gazthefink/oh-see-demon

doesn't do the super low gain, uber bassy sound i can get out of my BB preamp, but does pretty good low gain. really excels at mid to high gain distortion for me

jacks on the top, plus looks awesome...

I bet a resident maker could rebox your favorite pedal..

Like Mike Putnam, or someone else here.

Tell me a little bit about the Oh See Demon. How well does it do low gain sounds? Also, have you run it after an octaver and/or before a filter? If so, how does it do in that context?

Part of my problem settling on an overdrive is that I want one that sounds good on it's own and has a range of usable gain (low gain especially) but also can push a filter in a nice way and add significant grit to an octaver.

I love the Microtubes B3K when soloed and it works pretty well with an ocatver but I'm not as happy with it in front of a filter and that's something I do a fair amount of.

I've run it with a micro pog with no issues and our terrordactyl (fuzz filter) easily. I run it into my Moog Freqbox and it drives that dude well.
I'm demo'ing a new gated mod for the OSD this weekend and I'll be sure to show it at its lowest gain settings. It goes from cleaning boost to higher-medium gain.

I'm liking my Green Rhino more and more. It's super awesome. I thought about selling it and trying something else, but I'm having second thoughts. It's just so grindy and I don't lose a bit of low end, and the tone really complements my clean tone. It can be very subtle change from my clean tone in the band mix, or I can crank it up for some nasty grind.

i get a custom blender with a top mount input/output and side mount for the dirt pedal. so i can add whatever dirt box to experiment and still able to blend and has easy access to plug in from bass to amp.

I'm still Shi##ing my pants over my Fuzzrocious oh see demon and rat tail. Both sound killer at lower gain settings and have topside jacks.
