Bass Pedal: Bill Withers - Use Me (Keyboard Sound)
Hello, I'm trying to find a simple pedal that would come close in simulating the keyboard sound in Bill Withers "Use Me" recording. I don't typically use pedals, so ideally, I'd like to find something as simple as possible to use (stomp box style preferred).
Please let me know if you have any suggestions.
Here is the song in questions:
Try an Octave Pedal - preferably a Boss OC-2 or the MXR M-288, and perhaps a distortion pedal pre-octave pedal, with just a <hint> of dirt on it. You'll also want to play the bass line an octave higher as the octave pedal(s) add notes below the original note. A band I was in used to cover that song and that config worked well
Perfect. Thanks for the reply and tips!
Right hand plucking ----- closer to the bridge.
I've had very good luck copping electric piano tones with my Source Audio Multiwave. Right now I have one side set for a Rhodes and the other for a Clavinet.
I'm back on this, got busy with life stuff and never had a chance to work on this any further... Which Distortion pedal would you guys recommend to work well with the OC-2? From what I understand, the OC-2 has a bit of a tracking issue on lower notes, so would I need something with a bit of a boost in the signal, or does that not really matter?
I've used the MXR El Grande Fuzz in the past. Would that "qualify" as a good pedal to work with the OC-2 for this type of sound?
Would the EH Big Muff be a better choice, or should I try something else?
I'm sold on the OC-2. I like the sound and simplicity of use.
