I have a hard enough time playing half notes while playing the bass! Quote:

It's like she has three brains or something. She just closes her eyes, lets the music envelope her, and her hands and feet take on lives of their own. She's covering the rhythm with her left hand, the bass line with her left foot .... all the while cutting killa chops with her right hand. The drummer and guitar player just go into cruise control and keep up.
You have to remind yourself that there is no ~bass player~ in that band other than her.

Do you see any advantages to using a Moog Taurus v3 vs a Roland PK5a with a Moog Minitaur? Obviously, it is one piece of gear vs 2, which can make a difference when setting up/tearing down live. Just thought I'd see what you guys, especially the Taurus v3 owners thought. I know they are discontinued, but lots of folks still have some in stock right now.

I sold my PK-5s after I bought my Taurus 3. The poly mode is worthless (unless you plan on playing Taurus with both feet while standing & playing bass guitar, & good luck with that!), and the Minitaur is mono-only, so moot point anyway. IMHO, the only advantage with the Minitaur is lighter weight & easier to move.
The advantages of the T-3 are;
* Presets, and the ability to write your own, & to switch through them, hands-free, while playing live.
* Volume & assignable controller foot wheels.
* The ability to switch the glide & octave features on & off with your feet.
* Built in arpegiator.

Running it into a Roland JV-1080 and out to the PA. Current band is a 3 piece, so I'm running a GR-20 on my bass along with the Korg/Roland unit to help fill some space. Only been using it for a couple of weeks now, but between the GR-20 and the JV-1080, it's really helped in fleshing out our sound. |

Not to mention different octaves. Worthless? far from it. The PK5 has alot of great features IF you know how to use them! |

I have the Taurus 3.
Not discontinued. A limited run. Originally 1,000 units, but I think they went to 1,500. |

The PK5 is a very well built controller and worked beautifully for me for almost a decade, so I do know them inside & out, but I find the Taurus 3 to be far more versatile, especially for live performances.
After all, the Taurus 3 was specifically designed from the ground up to not only reproduce the sounds of the legendary Taurus Mk-1, but also to be an optimal live performance instrument.
The Minitaur/PK5 combo, while portable & great sounding, lacks many of the foot-controlled features of the T-3. The T-3 has full MIDI too, and is also capable of controlling multiple MIDI channels.
Each setup has it's advantages.
I've played bass pedals for 27 years now, & have owned T-1s, T-2s, PK-5s, Fatars, Multivox and Crumars, and for me, the Taurus 3 is the most versatile pedal synth I've ever owned or played.

| | Registered User | | Join Date: May 2012 Location: Colorado River Basin, Arizona | | All of this yakkity yak about bass pedals has me itching for my Cygnus kit. I have an Oberheim Cyclone hardware arpeggiator and a full-on modular synth (five VCOs three VCFs, three EGs, ring mod, et al). The two are interfaced together via a Kenton Pro Solo MkII midi-cv interface. The bass pedals (13 note Hammond set from a spinet) will trigger prewritten patterns and key-transposable runs that are stored in the Cyclone. I can use my bass guitar to actually change filter settings, the harder I play the bass the more control voltage is sent to the frequency and resonance controls of the modular while I goofenfiddle with the patterns in the Cyclone via the bass pedals. As well as a truckload of other some-such-stuff. You guys have me slathering over this not-yet-complete-rig-without-the-Cygnus-kit like a rabid dog!
I had the cash all saved up for the Cygnus kit, then this ridiculously great deal on a parametric EQ popped up on ebay (brand new-in-box Presonus EQ3B 3 band fully parametric for less than the Cygnus kit!). So I started over saving up again, then another freakish deal on an Aphex Xciter pedal showed up on ebay (they go for around $199 new, the person that input that item in the ad for the Hugomundo Music Dealer must have accidently hit a zero instead of a nine because the brand new Aphex had a buy-it-now of $109!!!! And are-you-friggin-kiddin-me FREE SHIPPING too!). Well hells bells, can't let THAT one go! So had to start over on saving for the Cygnus again.
Hardest $70 bucks I ever had to conjure up! Hahaha! Any day now ..... and BLAMMO .... I gots me my Cygnus kit! Then all will be analog modular synth bitchen around these here parts. |

I have to admit, the Minitaur hasn't been all I hoped for. Now, some of that could be newbie/user error for sure, but if the sounds on the Taurus 3 are better that is a big reason to make the switch.

When you google search, a retailer called IK Instruments but with a website called justforinstruments.com comes up with a $1499 price tag. However, I am leary of not going with a MF or Music 123.
