On Bass PRE-AMP or PEDAL Pre-Amp, it's the same sound?

Sign in to disble this ad
ok here the issue I got this bass http://the-music-store.com/store/ima...SR405QMCNB.gif
(what a mess of pre-amp)
I take off all the onboard pre-amp and re-wiring with the jazz bass schematic (sound awesome, almost like a real jazz bass but with the thin neck of Ibanez)

so I been looking to put a good pre-amp (without hissssssss sound like the one that Ibanez put on this bass)

I'm thinking on EMG http://www.bestbassgear.com/emg-bqc-control.htm

BuuuuuuuuuuuuT! I see this little thing... http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-BEH-BDI21-LIST
And I'm really amaze about it

So what you think? do you ever try this one or other similar one pedals pre-amp?

Thanks!

I use a SansAmp Bass Driver DI and love it. I think this is the poor mans version of the Sansamp. On the other hand, it seems to be really inexpensive as compared to the SA which I paid well over 100 bucks for. At 29 dollars I dont think you could go wrong to try it out. Behringer makes some good stuff.

How you compare the sound with a onboard preamp bass?
or a active?

I'd go with the Hartke that Javier69 posted. About 70 bucks more than the Behringer, but... It's not a Behringer...

Seriously, Behringer makes some pretty mediocre stuff sometimes. That particular pedal is known for having a power adapter input that's too small for a power adapter to fit into it... Go figure.
You should still try it out, if you can find one to try before you buy it, but I'm almost positive that you'll like the Hartke better.

Preamps come in many varieties; there is no reasonable comparison between "pedal" preamps versus "onboard" preamps, because each format does not necessarily sound similar--one specific pedal preamp may sound a lot like one specific onboard preamp, but totally different from another one. And it may sound similar to some other pedal preamps, but not others. It cannot be generalized.

I get a ride with the Hartke and like the bassman setting (got a real jazz bass sound) really very impressive and feel like a onboard preamp...
