Are there any other slicers other than the Boss SL-20? Does the SL-20 work well with the bass, anybody have any experience with this? it sounds like it would be awesome for trance jams, but is it going to track and register low notes and whatnot?
thank you in advance |

To answer your first question, I don't think there are any other standalone units that does what the SL-20 does. There are some effects that can do some of it, I think, but the SL-20 is really it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
As for tracking low notes, it doesn't need to "track" them. Its like delay effects or loopers. Its just recording your sound as is, then slicing it up. So it should be find on bass.

It doesn't "track" at all. It just takes your signal, chops it up into different "slices" based on frequency bands and then steps through the different bands in set patterns. And it has a clean blend, so you can still keep your low-end in there at the same time if you want. |

You can change the note lengths so each "Slice" is longer or shorter, perceiving a stronger bass signal of course. But as the others have said, it really is the same bass response as without it.
You can also dial in more/less direct signal as well.

I had a slicer briefly, and it was fun enough, though I had no real application for it so I ditched it. It works just fine with the bass. On some settings, you can get a percussive effect that's very cool.
In case you're curious, you can hear the slicer in action on bass on one of the tracks on my myspace page, "Eddy's in the Space-Time Continuum" ( http://www.myspace.com/jumbotronic). |
