Bass Solo Effect...

Sign in to disble this ad
I was wondering what pedal would get me closed to these songs: ‪Trivium- Torn Between Scylla And Charybdis‬‏ - YouTube
(the solos are at 4:10 and 5:00)

‪Avenged Sevenfold - Blinded in Chains‬‏ - YouTube
(the solo is at 4:53, I'm not sure if this is a pedal but advice on how to emulate it would be great)

Thanks for the help!

I can't pick out the Trivium bits enough..they bury it with guitar signal. No clue.
Pretty sure no extra effects are used on the a7x bit. You cut out the guitars and you finally hear some of the bassist's tone. I hate power metal like this, you don't need three separate guitars playing the same friggin thing.

That Trivium bit reminds me a hell of a lot of Dream Theater's Ytsejam.

yes, very hard to make out indeed. On the trivium one I think I got a little bit of that Cliff Burton feel. Sounded like some sort of fuzz and a wah-wah pedal. The second one I think is a chorus, either on top of or into a slightly overdriven amp.

Any specific pedals you'd recommend?

Kinda depends on your budget.
Any wah will do. like a crybaby or a cheaper guitar wah, or maybe a ibanez weeping demon. Cliff used a Morley. If you got more money to spend the Wilson wah's gets some praise around here. Also worth of note is RMC. My guitar friend has one of those, and they are supposed to be real fuzz-friendly. Personally I use a envelope/low-pass filter with an expression pedal.

Fuzz.. well, really anything will do here too. A muff maybe.. Lots of good clones out there. I can most definetly recommend a Supercollider. Also check out The Grey Stache, the Bluebeard and the Musket fuzz.
The Oxfuzz Bass also deserves a mentioning. Also I think a suitable Tone Bender clone wouldn't do you wrong.
Do some research and hunt for clips if you don't have the opportunity to try some out.

Chorus. I don't have too much experience with this one. I have EHX Stereo Clone Theory coming in. It is cheap and supposed to have nice tone, but is abit noisy. The DLS Ultra Chorus II is said to be great, but more expensive. I think the Analogman Chorus /w Deep switch is one of the more popular ones around here. I tried a EBS UniChorus once and thought it sounded good..
