Bass specific pedals?

Sign in to disble this ad
I use a Zoom B2 to play through and just bought a Boss chorus to goof around with. So, do we as bass players HAVE to use bass designed pedals only or can we also use guitar effects? I know some who use the "other" pedals but I didn't know if it would eventually hurt your amp or not. I'm sure bass only pedals are designed for a reason but I'm curious like George as to using the others.

i currently use an overdrive pedal designed for guitar....

the problem with non specific bass pedals is you usually end up losing some low end in the signal chain

but to answer your question yes you can use guitar pedals for bass....some just happen to work better than others

From the FAQ:

Do guitar pedals work with bass? Can I damage them this way?

Guitar pedals will function with a bass, but the quality of the resulting sound will vary. Experiment! No harm will come of it.

Almost? No, that's very sig worthy! Yeah, performing a search is the best way to go for basic questions, but I get really irritated with everyone always answering questions with "do a search." Most of the time it's guys who like to see their name all over TB without putting any effort into it. Either answer the question or don't, that's what I say.

Anyway, the only pedals you really have to worry about being bass-specific are distortion pedals. Most other pedals will work fine on bass. And even guitar distortion pedals will work fine if you split the signal and run one signal clean and the other effected, or use an effects loop with a blend control.

Now see...was that so hard?

I wanted to search something before but one of the words was only 3 letters long and it didn't include it in the search. It was crucial to the search too. Lame.

Of course I have no pics with which to back up this claim...

Google will search any site. Just put site:mywebsite.com after the search terms.
