Can I play a bass through a guitar Fuzz pedal? Are passive pickups better for fuzz pedals?

answer to question 1: depends which pedal

answer to question 2: depends which pedal

Some respond better than others to certain things. What pedal are you talking about?

If you do that you will tear the fabric of space-time ...... causing a catastrophic gnab gib (the opposite of the big bang)... if you can deal with that on your conscience, I say experiment away.

There's really nothing wrong with doing so. You won't hurt anything.

If the pedal is voiced for guitar it might not sound great, but then again it might sound amazing too depending on the tone you're looking for. Many guitarists use pedals that are meant for bass successfully too.

Go for it.

In all seriousness, Some guitar effects pedals work great with bass, like said before it depends on the pedal and the bass itself. I use a DOD fx25 envelope filter designed for guitar, I prefer it to the bass specific pedal from the same maker. I also use a 1977 Electro Harmonix Small Stone with bass, it was designed for guitar. You should see the insides it has a hand made circuit board.... But I digress.

Yes, though the results may vary wildly.

In many cases yes. In some cases it makes little difference.

Yeah, I used a bunch of "guitar" pedals on my bass when I was pedal hunting. I tried a bunch of boss stuff and a bunch of Electro Harmonix stuff. It really depended on the pedal and the bass though as to what sounded good and what totally lost your low-end. That's really the only downfall to certain "guitar" pedals is that you lose all bass when going through them. Heck, even some pedals made for bass lose a ton of low end. In all, I ended up getting a Boss GT-10B and really haven't found anything I can't emulate with the GT-10B (ok, maybe some of the synth stuff out there, but that's about it).
