Is the bass VT deluxe worth the extra $$?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been wanting a Bass VT and was wondering if the extra $120 was worth it for the deluxe? I would like the DI function, but preset function isn't really a must. Is there anything else the deluxe can do that the other version can't? An extra $120 seems a bit much for the addition of a DI and presets....

edit: I've forgotten about the fact that you can plug in two basses at the same time, which does not interest me at all either. However, when they say "And you can program the FX loop to engage your favorite effect each time a so-designated preset is selected," do they mean I could program the pedal so whenever I use preset 3 it would also turn on/off my other pedals?

yes it is for me.

if you don't plug in 2 basses like i do, atleast you have 6 presets to use. that's 6 kinds of effects for you. slap, finger picking, od, distortion, boost, and so on...

and like what i'm doing now, i switch my bass from active to passive when i use my fuzz, i use bank A for my active bass uses, and bank B for my passive bass uses.

just my 2 cents

He gets good reviews here on TalkBass for his mods but I have not tried them myself.

that wording about the FX loop can be misleading. I gather that there is a footswitch for the FX loop. When you save your presets to each slot, it just saves whether the FX loop is engaged or not.

It's not like you could have pedals A, B, C, and D in the loop, you stomp preset 1 and it turns pedals A and C on, then preset 2 would turn on B and D, or whatever. I repeat, it's not like that.

The mods are interesting, but then again, being in Canada I might as well grab the deluxe instead. My main purpose is to use the pedal as an Ampeg B-15 simulator to use with my P bass with flats to get that Motown-ish tone rather than a full blown distortion or overdrive. Because so, would it be better to invest in the Deluxe and use it as a B-15 simulator and use the other presets as more of a distortion pedal or get the VT and later on grab something like the SansAmp Bass Driver?

i don't see much need for the bass driver if you get a vtd. the vtd makes a nifty mild overdrive box too, but if the only thing you'll ever need out of it is b-15 grind, just get the vt. i got a vtd because it has 2 channels, but i really love having some full on distortion for the oldies, too. some of those old songs had some pretty nasty bass tones, even stuff that didn't sound distorted in the mix.

It was for me. I had a VT and got the VTD as soon as it was released. I play in a 70s rock cover band and a modern country band plus the praise band at church and the occasional jazz gig.

Having the option for 6 different tones at my finger, err toetips is great for me. With a G&L L2500 and a VTD I can get a tone for just about any application. With the presets I don't have to remember from gig to gig how to set the knobs, I just hit the button for the sound I want.
