Bass wah : what's cool these days?

I'm talking about "manual" wahs, not envelope filters. What's cool on the market these days?

Check out the Wilson wah. Also, do a thread search and you'll find a mega wah shoot-out thread.

I would suggest enigma with a exp pedal, is not a wah pedal but you can get a very complete wah pedal from it

Those of you mentioning your fave wahs- it would be very helpful if you briefly mentioned why you like it over the other wahs you've tried. Much appreciated!

I replaced my Dunlop with the EBS WahOne. It is truly amazing. So much more versatile in dialing in your tone.

My one issue is I switched to a Pedaltrain Mini. I really want a MiniWah for the board. I just got a Morley Maverick yesterday. However, it really loses liw end and is super bright on top. I will probably return it. I am now waiting for the Plutoneium Bass Chi Wah Wah.

I will keep the EBS for at least recording as it sounds amazing.

I tried a TON of Wahs, and have found nothing better than the Vintage Morley Power Wah Boost. It has a greater range than any other wah I'm aware of (from 25Hz up to 4KHz, though the low range is a bit more than a bass guitar rig can reproduce), it's SO smooth, and NOTHING screams like this thing with Distortion (or Fuzz). Of course it has it's problems, too...it's HUGE, it is AC powered, it needs lightbulbs, it's HUGE, the bypass SUCKS (I true bypassed mine), it's HUGE..... But none of these were dealbreakers for me because it sounds so good...

I have wanted to try a Wilson, and the EBS WahOne, but I'm so happy with the Morley, I can' justify spending the money to try one.

Dunlop 105Q gets the job done, although I also tested a Morley Kiko Lourerio Signature Wah/Volume/Distortion that I really dug

I hated the 105Q. I think Wah's are SUCH personal preference items...one man's garbage is another man's treasure. I'm not being facitiouos, or ragging on your choices, lots of people love the 105Q and a lot of other wahs I hated, in fact the reason I tried so many was because of recommendations that I ended up disagreeing with. I LOVE my Morley, but have seen plenty of people comment that they hated them...often for the same reasons I love mine!!!

Funny...

In what ways do you find the 105q and the Morley differ?

I just got a used Morley dual bass wah at my local pawn shop, $49. At about 1/2 price I had to by myself a Christmas present.

I have tried it out at a quiet jam, and a bunch on my own, have yet to gig with it or do a rehearsal at somewhat gig-like volumes, but so far I like it ok. I am finding the 'normal' setting to be to high/shallow to be very noticeable, but if you played with an extremely bright tone that might work ok. The "funk" setting is pretty righteous, and I dig that there is no "clicking it on" because it doesn't function as a volume- when you rock it forward it engages. Rocking all the way back completely disengages it, or just taking your foot off of it, because it is spring loaded, causes it to pop back and disengage. Between the point right where it clicks on and off there is a "toggle" sound, not unlike a guitar using its pickup selector switch to wobble the tone, that could be useful. Oddly enough I really like it along with an envelope filter as I can rock the wah through the current filter's cutoff freq and get some great shimmery feed-backy effects, producing tons of sustain. The output volume trim pot is also pretty useful, although I find myself sometimes hitting it with my foot while wah-ing and changing the setting.

I can't speak to much comparison with other wahs, I just bought it on a whim. I think it's worth $49 to me, but I would probably be a little more disappointed if I had paid $105 for it.

I hated the bypass on the 105Q (the Morley sucks, too, but I true bypass modded mine). I could not get a good sweep on the 105, it went from off to a loud honk and didn't sweep high enough for my taste.
