Bass Whammy AC adaptor question

Sign in to disble this ad
hey folks,

i just got my hands on a bass whammy!

unfortunatley there was no original ac adaptor with it,i used a 9v 1300mA unit which i already had before.somehow the LEDs flitter from time to time, and there is a added noise to my sound, like a little buzz or so.

i want to know if its dangerous for the whammy to use it with this ac adaptor over a long time? which ac adaptor do you suggest to use with?

thanks,
dirtybanana

I checked my whammy 4. Its got 9v 1300 AC written on the side.

Personally Id give it whatever yours says on the side. Especially if you are experiencing problems

No, that's not dangerous. Its ok to have a power supply give more amps than a pedal needs; the pedal will only draw what it needs. However, the voltage needs to match. In this case, I do remember that it was 9V, so you should be fine. The one thing that I've seen people forget is that the bass whammy takes 9v AC, not DC (like most wall warts). As long as you're 9V AC, you're fine. The problem must be something else. (a dodgy AC jack on the whammy perhaps?)

I really dislike that my Whammy uses AC...

If I have the AC for the Whammy plugged into the same wall socket as my amp, then I get a bit of distortion in my tone as if my battery is going flat in my active bass.

Use a power conditioner as a filter for the power to the amp?

Looks like you got the first Bass whammy i had. Let me guess, you got it on ebay? I had the same problem but had an adapter from radioshack that did 9v 800MA so it should have worked right? All it did was make noise :/ Good thing the guy took it back

make sure the polarity of the adapter is correct. that'd be bad news otherwise.

You don't have to worry about polarity with AC.
