bassman clone/pre?

Sign in to disble this ad
does anyone know of a non-sansamp/pod company that makes a good bassman clone kind of like the flipster for BASS? i've searched on here and i've come across the boss one but it seems to be made of treble, and for the guitar.

with the interest that is paid to replicating "vintage" ampeg sounds on here... it got me thinkin' about the bassman.

surprisingly, it doesn't seem like anyone has cloned it and shoved it in a tiny metal box!

did i gloss over something? does anyone know of something i'm not aware of?

thanks in advance.

While I don't know of a ready-made non-Boss Bassman pedal, if you have some electronics knowhow you could adapt the Flipster concept to the Bassman particulars without too much difficulty. Essentially you'd include as many FETs as there are tube stages in the Bassman, and use the Fender tone stack instead of the Baxandall.

I actually liked the Zoom B2's Bassman model.

There is the Alembic pre.

Also, I think there is more than one 'bassman' circuit, so any particular clone (if it exists) may still not be the end-all 'clone'.

Do you not like Tech21 (Sansamp)?

it seems the reviews on the sansamps are always polarized. the guys [snobs, maybe?] with the more pricey gear seem to think they make everything sound the same but the guys that rely on the sansamp as their "sound" seem to fanboy out a bit.

on a totally unrelated note i used to use an old boss gt-3 with my bass waaaaaaaaaay back in the day and i remember disliking "modeled" amps quite a bit. that's probably the evil past memory that goes through my head most when i think about modeling stuff in general. not that sansamps are really "modeling" but from what i've gathered on here the sansamps aren't really *that* much of a step up from the pod stuff.
