batteries or adapters

batteries or adapters, what do you use?

a guitarist I know has lots and lots of pedals, and a pedalboard, regularly gigs, but he powers all of his pedals with batteries, which seemed kind of odd to me, but w/e

I myself only have one pedal (a boss DS-1) with an adapter, because I don't like batteries

and, as a bonus question, if you use batteries, how often do you replace them? at set times or just when they run out?

Batteries will add up to much more money than adapters will.

Adapters all the way.

Second that. Plus adapters seldom run out of juice at the most inopportune times.

My guitard uses batteries. He has about 9 pedals plus a Roland Guit-synth. His reasoning is that he doesn't want to have a giant collection of wall warts dragging down his rig. He only noticed my one spot recently. I don't know if he is considering changing his methods or not. I am a wall wart guy all the way.

+1. Also adapters for any practice, jamming, or any other situation where high-fidelity recording is not happening.

I saw a piece of 120v equipment on a pedal board that provides wall wart power to all the pedals. Didn't see any wall worts. Seemed like it replaced them all with a central power unit.

Certainly, lots of us use those. There are several makers and models.

Adapters all the way. I've probably spent less than $40 on adapters and daisy chains to power 14 pedals, and even buying the cheap 9Vs it would probably cost me $30 a month to power everything.

I'm assuming that using AC adapters in a recording studio can lead to interference on recordings?

My guitard has 3 pedals powered by batteries. He really puts the tard in guitard as he can't tell a battery is running low until it completely dies and the sound cuts out, even if it makes his overdrive sound horrible. He doesn't even carry spare batteries so I do in case of emergencies! I don't mind too much as I have a pile of them that have come with pedals I've purchased (I take the battery out almost straight away).

We also have to suffer from dodgy patch leads cutting out due to the constant unplugging and shoving everything into a backpack. Boss pedals have a reputation for being unbreakable, but it seems like he is trying to put this to the test, you should see the state of them! I've offered to make him a simple wooden board and advised him to buy a friggin power supply!

(guitard rant over)

I use a One-Spot. The only time I would use a battery is if I were just using one pedal at a show, which happened once. We played for like five minutes, and I just didn't seem worth it to find a wall wart + an outlet for it.

Adapters... just easier, don't have to plug and unplug everything every time. Plus, one of my pedals (Deluxe Electric Mistress) doesn't take batteries at all, so...
