BBE Maxcom hum

Sign in to disble this ad
Just got a BBE Maxcom and it has a noticable hum in it. Get's even worse when the Sonic Maximizer is engaged. I've tried with my mixing board and with my amp head, same results in both places.

I've seen reviews stating it's clean and stating they've had the same issue I have. Is mine just a lemon that I should exchange, or just return and move on?

The one I had did not hum, but OTOH the construction quality was not great so I wouldn't be too surprised if a few lemons rolled off the line. If you're comfortable doing basic electronic testing, you can pop the lid to see if there are any obvious ground points or ribbon-cable terminators not properly connected.

Maybe I should just request an exchange from Musicians Friend and give BBE another shot...

I put it in the effects loop of my SVP-Pro. The hum comes through the speaker even with preamp and poweramp turned down.

Further testing:

Ran as an effects insert into my Mackie board. Same hum.
Went upstairs to my bedroom with a pair headphones. Can hear hum from unit in the 'phones. Comes out of both channels.

Definetly something electrically wrong with the unit. It's going bye bye.

Yes, do an exchange, we have 2 Maxcom units at our church and all 4 channels are quiet.
