BBE Maximizer vs Compressor

Hey,

So i'm interested in sonic maximizer, but still i cant understand whats the difference between maximizer and compressor? Or this is just comp with cool name?

It is very much not a compressor. It is an exciter.

Additionally, a "maximizer/exciter" typically produces a scooped-mids ("smiley face") EQ shape.

Yes, completely different animals. Think of the Maximizer as a fixed eq pedal, that scoops away all your mids.

I'm wondering why you would want to scoop your mids? I usually set my mid range knob on my guitars preamp to about 60 percent, should i be scooping mids down to like 30-40 percent? I understand it's all in what your ears tell you but I'm just curious what the logic/reasoning is behind a mid scoop eq pedal.
