BBE Opti-Comp

Has anyone used one these?

Is the pedal a new version of the Opto Stomp?

It's the same thing. Different box design.

I'm really glad I got my Opto-Stomp while it still looked like a stick of butter with a mustache.

Yes, I also bought the Opto Stomp yellow with the mustache, as I think there are no spec changes just a facelift with the opti comp.
I like the sound, but have to turn up the volume to 2 o'clock with my Precision Bass (passiv) to get equal loudness. I have the compression at about 11 to 12 o'clock.
What are your impressions on the pedal?!? Worth it? Setting suggestions?

I put the volume at 3 to boost my signal a bit. I also use a pbass. I set the comp at noon.

thanks.
3 and noon seem a good P-Bass setting. :-)
I will experiment at the band rehearsal.

Two rehearsals with my band later:
Setup is P-Bass, Opto Stomp, Markbass CMD 121P. Output of Opto Stomp to match the loudness of uncompressed signal.
I definitely hear a difference in tone. Off - the bass is clearer and cutting. On - the bass gets damped/muffled. but it also gets more volume, more boom, but less cut.

Now my idea:
Is it useful to use the compressor most the time with medium (12 o'clock) compression and set the sound a bit quieter than the uncompressed signal. And when you want to do some solo-work, turn the compressor off to get a "boost" and cut through better?!?

wow, they went from stick of butter, to red moustache machine to really..really dull and plain. Personally I preferred the stick of butter model to the red/moustache.

The "mustache machine" was yellow. It came after the "stick of butter". I think you are thinking of the sonic stomp when you refer to the red one. And I have to agree the the new ones look a bit boring. They even Changed the name from opto, to opti. But some like a simple clean look I suppose.

I talked to BBE. Marketing wanted to get away from the cartooney look. I'm happy with my butter with stache and monocle. But still experimenting with the settings.
BBE told me that the "new" silver one has the same specifications.
