Has anyone ever seen or tried one of these? I just discovered them today and I must say I like the concept. I've never been a fan of velcro and I like when the board acts as the bottom of its own case. They're built by the same guy who is known for tricking out DL-4's.
Here's some info: http://www.bedroom-boards.com/ http://www.thegearpage.net/board/sho....php?p=8798701
My one big complaint is that while it looks like a decent case, it doesn't really look to be as good as a flight case. |

I can see a lot of pedal movement when you stomp on them. Plus, it looks like pedals are below the edges. This could make it difficult to stomp. Your foot could hit the edge. |

I don't get it. I guess it would be good for absorbing spilled beer at shows? |

Without the pedals securely fastened down, that setup is not going to be roadworthy. Plus it's a filth magnet. Bedroom worthy? Sure! Real-world gig worthy? I doubt it. |

#1 I'd assume you'd get all your lovely pedals sliding around and banging into each other when you had to pack up and move
#2 you'd have to re-wire and re-set every single pedal when you'd arrived at your destination. (I know you usually have to re-set pedals anyways, but having to rewire them too is a bit much IMHO)
#3 after a while, that carpet will look and smell like you killed and skinned Oscar the Grouch and stuck him to your board. |

| | | | Agreed, Interesting looking design. Not road worthy.

| | | | It's different enough that I like it. I think the foam squishes down on the pedals to hold them in place during transit. |

If it means anything, it's burned into my mind as well. At least you didn't see the rest of Google Images' search results. What a terrifying 2 seconds of my life.

You wouldn't need to rewire your pedals every gig, although I imagine you would want to check your settings. Cables can be routed under the carpet, but it's no good for people who want to have a big power supply under their board.
I haven't seen a picture of the inside of the lid that holds the pedals down, but I'm not ready to assume it's not roadworthy. I doubt you'd want to fly with it, but I think it might hold pedals in place better than you guys are imagining.
I've yet to hear anything bad from someone that owns one. There are some aspects of it that I don't like, and I think they're a bit pricey for what they are, but I'm really considering copying some ideas from this design for a custom made board. The main thing I like is the convoluted foam holding your pedals down w/o velcro. |

Originally Posted by Mingus Addict ... The main thing I like is the convoluted foam holding your pedals down w/o velcro. | I also like the foam cushioning. I had a similar set-up for years (albeit in conjunction with velcro instead of shag carpeting). The foam was ok (not great) for keeping the pedals from getting dislodged from velcro after a hard drop/hit. This type of foam is not going to keep a heavy pedal from shifting, though. Especially without some positive system of attaching the pedals.
I had a colleague who lined the top/lid of his board with a thick sheet of memory foam. http://www.foamorder.com/memory.html It worked really well at form-fitting around his pedals (including some heavy ones like a Tube Rotosphere) and was effective for stabilization. I think this stuff is a better alternative than the egg-crate foam.
I like that the Bedroom-Board folks are innovating (a little), but really don't see these as practical road-worthy units. More of a novelty for bedroom warriors! (Which is cool too! ) |

| | | | My definition of road worthy - I'd definitely take it on a gig where I'm lugging my own gear. But I don't think I'd take it on a tour where someone else is moving and setting up my gear. Then again, the odds of the latter happening are close to zero, so this board would be more than "road worthy" for me.
The shag is gimmicky, but I like it. It's kinda like when you throw some pedals on the floor when trying out different configurations quickly but now you can just pickup the floor and take it with you.

| | | | I was playing around a little tonight and I think I would change pedals far more frequently with a setup like this. They're just sitting on the board instead of locked down and tightly packed together. The down side is that you don't have a place to mount a power supply like you can with a pedaltrain. |

It wasn't great but for carrying 3 -4 pedals to practice it was ok. This looks better since it doesn't have to lift out so it doesn't require velcro. I don't care for velcro. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
