The original bass line was played with a Mini-Moog.

Jive Talkin'

I'm an old guy too. I remember bands playing it when high end keyboard players used a B3 and a Rhodes.

The bass player pulled it off with a Morley Wah.

Reply from another "old guy"

Found this from a biography on the Bee Gees.

So from the sounds of it there was hardly a bassline and what i considered bass was a keyboard? Kind of embarassing as a bassist. Wish they had a pedal that could create that exact sound in that song, i'd be all over it.

I use a Peavey Cirrus through a Markbass Super Synth --> Holy Fire O.D. (Hi freq. rolled off) --> WMD Super Fatman with a direct (dry) signal from my bass keying the envelope to produce a fairly close 70's synth bass sound.

Check out the Roland GR-55. Sound like this may be the ticket.
