are behringer pedals as bad as I expect?

I've read lots of reviews on them, but how many of you guys on here have actually used them. I'd rather hear from you guys than just some random person in a review somewhere

well i have behringer bass overdrive pedal and it does the job of an overdrive very well.

just the annoying thing is how the power is on the side of the unit. but it works nicely and sounds decent for the money

less bad than you might expect. i've used 4 pieces of behringer gear during the last 10 years. never had a piece fail.

no. I had a phaser that i liked that didn't hum. Don't know if it was a tone sucker after 5 other pedals, but for $30 new I was happy.

If you're looking for awesome gear it's not for you but if you're looking for a couple of great tools it's worth a try.

I have the BOD100 Bass Overdrive and the DC9 Compressor, like 'em just fine. I've bought a few others, but returned 'em. Can't beat the price, but the quality control is spotty -- I've bought a couple that were broken right out of the box.

Every piece of Behringer gear I've owned has failed. I consider them toys—good enough for playing around with at home; I would never rely on one at a gig or session... My 2 cents.

i have a ble-100 its a clone of the boss lmb-3 but is better than the boss itself. i bought mine two years back and its still working as good as it always did. yes the power supply jack on the side is a little irritating but not a major issues, tech21 pedals also have it the same way.
it limits my signal while not altering my tone, its very transparent! but it takes all the nasty spikes from slap playing especially with filters and what not. and even if it broke 30$ was'nt a big deal, i might even get another one. thats just my experience though.

to add, the switching on/stomp mechanism is a little rigid/ not as smooth as boss pedals. but again its a pedal which stays on all the time so i hardly ever stomp on it. its cool really

I have a trem pedal that really sucks, a double A/B pedal that does the job fine, and a rack 5 band parametric EQ that quite good.

They can be really bad but generally they are better than their reputation. Depends on the product really.

so it being all hit or miss is the part that kills it for me, since there's no place around here to get them. I don't like to order things and then send them back. Bad enough having to go back to a store to get another one, but waiting for shipping both ways sucks .

I don't like Behringer...

I guess the sound is alright for the low price, but overall its not that good...
Besides, I'm not fond of the plastic design... to fragile... :/

Overall Behringer has quality issues, but they make at least a few devices that work well enough *for the price*. I have several of their stomp boxes as well as their Bass V-Amp Pro. Among them, the BDI21 is at the top of the list, folllowed by the BLE100 limiter/enhancer. Both are solid units that do what they're supposed to do, and they are certainly priced right. At the bottom of the list is the FX600 multi-effects box and the SO400 octaver, fickle and essentially useless. Their vintage delay, noise reducer, and aforementioned V-Amp Pro, are somewhere in between, which I rate based on their performance versus cost. As someone else already said, I wouldn't be inclined to gig with them, at least not without a backup. The best plan is to have the Behringer stuff standing by instead. Relatively cheap insurance that will get you through a crisis.

you can always rehouse them in a steel box and get a better switch.

If you're ordering any product from any manufacturer without playing it first it's going to be hit or miss on whether you like it or not. Only your ears will be your final judge.

There was a head-to-head comparison of the Behringer BDI21 vs the SABDDI, including sound clips, on here awhile ago. (you might still be able to find it if you search--I don't know) The sounds were fairly similar and the poll was split pretty evenly on preference. To my ears, the sounds were close enough that I went for the BDI21. Yeah, the plastic housing and the switch feel flimsy but I haven't had any problems in the 1+ year that I've had it. I try to take reasonable care of my gear but I'm not overly compulsive about it. If/when it ever breaks I'll probably consider the SABDDI for the sturdier build but until then I'm happy with the cheaper Behringer unit.

I'd withhold judgement until I actually played one myself. Ultimately, it's going to be your ears that should be the judge. I ran sound for a guy who used a Behringer head, and it sounded just fine. Behringer. It might work for you. Give it a shot.

I haven't jammed one myself, but my expectations are not too high after seeing the caliber of their more recent gear. I own several pieces of their pro audio equipment and have never had an issue with it... i'd venture to say that I'm quite pleased with it. Hard to believe they would let quality control get so poor.
