when he was on the cover of bass player, he said hed bring an octaver, a chorus, and a disortion of some sort (i've seen pictures to verify the octave as an oc-2)

since then, he's big using the line6 bass podxt pro rack unit with the fbv shortboard to control it...from all live recordings ive heard/seen, i hear a couple of different flavors of overdrive/distortion/fuzz, chorus, octave, and tremolo

if you wanna go single pedals to attain that sound, first off, hes using flatwounds which will make a big difference in my experience...i'd go with the boss oc-2, boss super chorus (older analog version), and a fulltone bassdrive...if you wanna throw some tremolo in there, the boss one will be fine

http://redpillmusic.com/pix/incubus072607/IMG_1088.JPG - 4 knobbed pedal on right could be a bassdrive...theres a brown boss pedal next to it (octaver) and a boss tu-2 on the end...one or two other pedals in there...the big black box im going to assume is a power supply

i wish i could find the links to the pictures of him CLEARLY using the line6 with the fbv shortboard, but, i cant...i also cant seem to find the video where there is just a BLATANT shot of his tu-2 and octaver while hes tuning for 3 seconds before the song starts

hope this puts you on the right path

he actually uses mesas...the exact rig varies show to show...sometimes its 4 walkabout scout combos, sometimes its a mpulse600 with a couple of smaller cabs...sometimes hes got an 810, but, hes using mesa every time...you're right on with the laklands though...used to play gibsons but switched to laklands with flats

I knob he uses the Bass POD, but not sure what else. Does anyone know what songs he uses his effects in. I know he has overdrive in Make A Move but that's about it.

leech has distortion, i believe he uses the octaver in the bridge (you'll hear the bass drop down really low)

in live versions of a crow left of the murder, he adds some tremolo to the bridge section

he uses a chorus in the bridge of anna molly (again, live) and sometimes puts distortion on it too since he recorded it using roundwounds so he wants to bring back some of the brightness in live applications

a kiss to send us off has distortion, which he does even more heavily live, same deal with megalomaniac...its a lot lighter sounding on the record than it is live

there's overdrive all over his solo work, too

MOSTLY he just uses the distortion in the studio and kicks on any sort of modulation for live use...and hes heavier on the distortion live as well...hes got a GREAT clean tone and has a VERY tasteful ear for effects, so, its almost like you dont notice when hes using them - it just makes the song sound right at that part...kind of a "you wouldnt miss it unless it wasnt there" type of thing

edit: listened to megalomaniac just now and completely forgot about the tasty distortion laced bridge

NEVER heard of a trem, the bridge of that song is simply fifths with played in chords that give that feel.

Then I second you on the most of his board: fulltone bassdrive , boss OC3 (4 knob) and a TU2, for the rest he seems to use a chorus, maybe a TC chorus flanger or an EHX, anyway it's a 1590 BB box in between his octave and tuner

Anyway, the mesa and flatwounded laklands are a big parts of the equation, the walkabout already have that grainy OD sound whet pusshed

WHoah, you're right grind it out, he used a bit of trem (of maybe a chorus pushed into tremulation!) coming from what seems to be a pod because of the FBV, but on my look alive DVD it's always fulltone bassdrive, OC, tu2 and some kind of chorus!

Do we have proof he uses a bassdrive?

In make a move - http://youtube.com/watch?v=hi1lQlLU21U - he has some sort of overdrive from 1:15 to 1:25, do you think that is overdriving his mesas, his POD, or a bassdrive?

It's mainly the mesa's. I've had a BD for a month or so and you can't get a tone like that out of it . though it's close with a hot tube pre after it like an ashdown or an ampeg or a mesa of course. To me he's driving the s$$$t out of his walkabouts
