I think I remember reading something about a Boss somewhere. But I could be wrong. Or it could be a POD. I still think he's a hack.

I am going to assume he is using a POD

They're worse than most of the stuff on the radio, and that's saying something. AND he's not a very good bassist. I just think Dirk was a ton better. The band as a whole was much better with him. Now I;m not going to be the ******* who tries to force my views on anyone, I don't like him. It's totally fine if anyone does. But I think he has ruined one of my favorite bands. Sorry.

EDIT: I remember reading that they had to change at least 1 part in every song because he couldn't play them the way Dirk could. That's pathetic. Find someone who can at least play what you had before.

I don't think he ruined the band, they just grew out of the rap/metal stage into "musicians" just like lots of other bands that make it big.
Selling out is a useless term in music though...as a musician, your dream would be that you are able to make money/a living off of your passion. I don't see them making money as selling out.

I think Dirk kicks tail over him but what are you going to do?

And for the record anything after SCIENCE is bologna! OF course Make yourself is listen-able but it isn't anything compared to what they were.

Incubus is my favorite band, and I appreciate all their music. Every album is different from the next, and it's always fun to see what the come out with. Dirk and Ben are my two biggest influences, and I think Ben suits their style of music better now.

Does anyone know anything about the chorus?

Isn't it a Line6 BassPod? I read an interview with him a while back. He said he was trying to strip down the amount of effects he uses but I'm pretty sure the interview mentioned the POD.

..and to mark my position in this pointless non-debate, I'm on the Ben Kenney side

So true, except Ben Kenney actually is a really good musician, however still I feel Brandon Boyd going soft and Ben Kenney not being able to live up to Katunich's style is what brought the band to the nothing they've become. Mike Enzinger still plays awesome stuff though. Ugh but teh bands a mess even DJ Killmore doesn't want to be called a DJ anymore

Anyways sorry I couldn't help you with the chorus I'm too upset thinking about the sick music I could have been listening to if Dirk was still around.

consider this... if the band did not like his abilities and think they jived with the direction they wanted to go in, they would not have hired him.

Maybe they got bored with Dirk's slappitypop stuff?

That said, I think he uses a POD for most of his effects, but not all.

I've read on the internet somewhere, that he uses a Line6 Basspod live on stage. And something about Brandon Boyd showing him his secret settings . That being said, I don't really like the choris in my BassPOD XT Live...

On the Ben vs Dirk topic; Although I always digged Dirk's stuff and think it was very suited for the style Incubus played back then, I find Ben to play in a much more musical way, which I like. The music of Incubus evolved and so did the bass-division.
Calling they're current music ****, a sell-out and stating Ben couldn't play Dirk's things is, offcourse, bollocks.

If memory serves, it was Brendan O'Brien, the producer, who had the Magic Pod Settings.....

So what chorus would be closest to that tone?

Just about decent chorus pedal would be close enough. If you got the exact same unit as he has and found out his exact settings, you'd still be a Joe Osborn Lakland short... not to mention the amplification and whatever recording processes are going on.

You are right on the second part, but this chorus is very lush and thick.

The reason I ask is because he is using flats, which makes it harder to make the effect pronounced. When I use my chorus, it's not nearly as lush.

One last bump, also, is this tone more of an 80's shimmery/pitch shifting chorus or more of a thick lush phasey chorus?
