Ben Kenney Organ Sound

Sign in to disble this ad
Does anybody know the effect that Ben Kenney uses with Incubus on the Alive at Red Rocks DVD. He uses it I think during the song Drive and then for a little run before the next song. It sounds like he is playing some type of organ, but if anybody knows the effect/pedal I'd really appreciate it. Here's the clip of it on youtube.
Thanks

Exactly. Its chorus and a pick.

Funny enough I was just playing along with that DVD out of sheer boredom and respect for that man's playing and the band as a whole.

The other thing that's affecting his tone is the use of flatwounds on his bass.

Great version of that song! Kind of Cure-ish. I dig it.

+1, Dirk Lance has always been my favorite bassist so it took me awhile to accept Ben, but now I realize how good a player he is. But back to the question, he uses GHS precision flatwounds.

I could be wrong, but I think I read somewhere that he uses a Bass POD rather than singles?

He does use the POD but also uses a couple singles like he Boss TU-2, Boss OC-2, and Fulltone Bass-Drive.

Bingo.

Wow, I'm starting to think I'm becoming some sort of obsessive fan here. I'm just a gear nerd, I swear!

Flats! Ever since I tried TI Jazz Flats, I don't like to play anything else! I love both tone and feel.

funny you mentioned that. most people say that Hook got his sound from the clone theory he used + the overdriven amps.
