The Best Alternatives to the Best?

Sign in to disble this ad
The Tech 21 Sansamp Programmable Bass Driver Direct In is both quite a mouthful and the perhaps the most popular pedal-format product in the bass world today.

Even then, this can't mean (I hope) that are no good alternatives to it. What do you guys think you'd buy if the BDDI didn't exist? Why? And who out there sports an alternative? Like to give a little review and/or comparison for us?

FWIW- I know this has mostly likely been discussed before. Thanks for not mentioning it.

In terms of features, the MXR M-80 is awfully close to the BDDI, so I'd guess that MXR might own that market.

Doesn't sound like it though. I got one as soon as it came out a long time ago when I was getting into bass seriously (started PA-supported gigs and needed a DI) and it is simply nothing special.

Fixed it for ya!

I owned one, I loved it, but once I was rich enough to buy decent basses, I started to dislike it. Eventually I hated it, then I didn't own it any more and I lived happily ever after.

The End.

The alternatives you should investigate depend entirely on what features you want. So... ?

No worries, I won't mention 'it' - but I will say

I still like having one, even though i never really use it and certainly don't need it. I keep selling them and then buying another just to have one around. Sometimes you just want the sound that this pedal is known for.

Yep. Basically Hartke Bass attack and The MXR.

Also Tronographic Rusty Box, Tech21 VT Bass, EBS Microbass, Aguilar Tone Hammer. Oh, and the Behringer Sansamp clone! Also the Zoom B2 does a pretty fine Ampeg simulation for the price too.

well, if the Sansamp didn't exist, then the Behringer one probably wouldn't exist either, since there would have been naught for Behringer to clone....

Ouch.

Naw, it would have been an MXR-inger.
