Self explanatory really. What is the best (affordable) delay pedal for a bass guitar. Do you just use any guitar delay pedal?
So far, this is what I have my eye on: http://www.ibanez.co.jp/world/produc.../page/de7.html

In a nutshell, people use whatever they think sounds good...........as is the case with any other type of effect.
Units that get a lot of love around here are:
Boss DD-3
Boss DD-6
Boss DD-20
Boss RE-20 Space Echo
Line 6 Echo Park
Line 6 DL-4
Guyatone MD-3
Ibanez DE-7
Ibanez AD-9
Digitech PDS20/20
Digitech Digidelay
Akai Headrush
There are lots of others, too. Depending on the features you need, such as tap tempo, ducking, trails, etc........any of these units should suffice, more or less.

| | | | Personally I prefer a digital delay for bass because I don't feel bass needs analog signal degradation (like that of a tape delay) on the repeats. A tape delay is cool on guitar, but on bass sometimes it can just get muddy. Digital delays offer more pristine repeats. I use a Boss DD-3 which is simple, relatively inexpensive, and gets the job done. |

| | | | The ibanez de 7 delay is good. Lots of differnt times, echo, and cheap. |

| | | | after using it, i would say that the ehx stereo pulsar is a really good short delay. on square wave with a longer rate (really hard to dial it in tho.) its also good as a vibrato/termelo and cool to get some synthy sounds with some distortion (rat in my case) |

Get the DL4. It's more than just a delay, and I personally hate Line 6 but I tell people to try that pedal. Yes it's digital as all hell but dude it works well on bass. It works DAMN well. One of those pedals you can sit down with and just enjoy.
I also like my Space Echo but I'm going to sell it because I need money and the music I've been working with is so heavy and thrashy that the Space Echo doesn't fir that bill. |

I own one of these. It sounds very good and adds depth to my sound.

I happen to like "muddy" sometimes, in dub/glitch/stoner ambient stuff, but it's not right for most normal band mixes. This also makes me realize that a lot of digi units which have a "vintage" or "analog" emulation feature, just roll off the highs on the repeats. But at what frequency range do they roll off? And what frequencies are we bassists playing primarily? |

But I'm gonna take a chance and replace it with something...something a little more interesting. Hmm, wait and see.
Seriously, that 999 is killer. |

It does not sound identical to analog self-oscillation IMO, but thats only an issue for someone who's trying to sound identical to analog. Also note that not every delay (analog or digi) is set up to do the same degree of self oscillation. Some are more capable than others. |
