Best bass distortion sound ever?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, new to the forums here, thanks to everyone for all the amazing knowledge!

I'm in search of the perfect distortion pedal/setup, and if I could achieve a bass sound like the one at about 4:40 of this video, I could die a happy man (you can certainly go right to the time i mentioned and get the feel, but if you have the inclination, listen to the whole buildup. Talk about tension and release...holy s**t).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doc1eqstMQQ

Any ideas on how to get that? Right now I play an ASAT through an RB400 into an Aguilar 112 and 212.

Thanks boys!

Reminds me a bit of clips I've heard here of the GK Diesel Dawg.

all I heard was distorted noise over the original bass line.... perhaps youtube quality audio wasn't the best representation?

To acheive awesomeness:
1. Move to Iceland
2. Speak Hopelandic
3. Play behind a screen

They have a lot of studio magic. Some songs have two basses. Some even use a bow on the strings.
I'd write to the 18 Seconds site to inquire there...

I would imagine studio magic; it sounds a lot like Mogwai distortion to me, which I know much more about. They love to use the old Dano distortion (the metal space ship shaped one) for that wall of noise type distortion.

I'd try to find a live video if you can, that might help us pin point it.

Sigur Ros is a great band, but IIRC his bass setup is fairly simple; P's and J's, looks like he's using an Ampeg in the studio, and probably uses an SVT rig live:

Thanks everybody! Megadan, do you know which Dano model they use? I can totally see the Mogwai comparison, and that could be a great start.

Luther, the song is Glósóli. Epic.

The Culture Vulture looks redonkulous. Someday...

Some of the best bass distortion I've ever heard is on the song XII XXI XII it can be found here: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...iendID=6824943

I think he uses that effect through most of the album and I tip my hat.

thats (XII XI XII) some HEAVILY scooped tone with the 800-3khz range set to grind.

its like the tone i have in my head exaggerated by a couple thousand percent haha.

pretty good band though

I'm more interested in the tone in the beginning. That really bottomy yet finger-on-string tone, it's killer!
