Best Bass Effects on Line 6 M9?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got one incoming and a gig a day after it arrives. I'm looking for which effects you've found work the best with bass. The effects I'm specifically interested in are envelope filter, fuzz/OD, chorus, delay, and compressor. Any other tips and tricks would be much appreciated. I did a search but couldn't find much however, I didn't try the Google search. Thanks in advance everyone, I'm really excited for your insight.

In my opinion, I wouldn't gig with any effect until I had some time to practice with it and really get a feel for how it works and how it sounds. The stage is not the place to experiment with a new gizmo :-)

While I appreciate your response and respect your opinion I would like to hear some thoughts on which effects in this pedal perform best with bass. I'll certainly try out these settings either at home or in rehearsal before the gig (depending on when it arrives) but it will be with me at the gig nonetheless.

What I like:

Overdrive model > Facial Fuzz model.

Screamer model isn't bad.

Tube Comp really fattens tone.

TriChorus

Holy crap all the delays.

The Tron Up or down in BP or HP aren't bad. The LP isn't so hot. I recommend bringing the volume of your bass down to the sweet spot of the filters, then play with the rest of the effects. They all seem to respond best to a similar level, and that level is lower than all of my basses.

This is just a start, there are plenty more in there that I like to use, but these are the ones that are first on my list that you specified. Don't let my suggestions limit your experimentation.

i like:

big muff model
heavy dist model
tremolo
analog chorus
a few delays
all the synths with the exception of 3-5 obvious crap efx
tron up/down (filter sweet spot a must)
bass octave good (if your into that)
sub octave fuzz

most of these efx sound great into each other and with a loop blend pedal

for instance - octisynth into opto tremolo

Thanks, these are great suggestions as I'm looking for a good starting point and will experiment from there.

Tube comp is awesome, but the gain is really excessive so you have to attenuate considerably.

The dimension chorus model is nice as well.

Most of the overdrive/fuzz models can be made to work well, I really enjoyed the Facial Fuzz and Colordrive patches. The barberpole favor as mentioned above was my favorite phaser.

The bass octave and the smart harmony patch set to octave down track phenomenally.

Unfortunately I thought most of the filter patches were horrible.

that's unfortunate to hear about the filters because that's what I would likely be using most, along with the octave and fuzz

the filters/synth are sketchy when you first engage them, however, there is an amazing amount of tweaking to do and I usually was able to cop some good tones out of most after a considerable amount of tweaking

it is easily worth the money, best multi ever in my opinion

I think my main scene on there right now is Tron Up/Digital delay (ms), trem (tap)/obiwah (tap), ring mod/digi delay (tap). For my cover band I've been using the ringmod, tap delay, tap trem, and occasionally the tron. The delays were mostly what I used in my old band, and for my own personal noodling I tend to use everything and anything .

Almost all of the effects are workable for bass if you tweak them enough. Also, download the memory upgrade and install that at some point. It supposedly makes a few effects more bass-friendly as well as adds a new effect (IIRC).

The dirt and octaves I don't use as much because I also have a BMS and a HOG on which I've already got settings I like.

I've got some clips in the wiki, you can decide for yourself if those are the sounds you're hunting down.

Top of the page, right below the TB logo. Follow the wiki link and click on things that say effects until you reach the effects clip database.

Simultaneous lovin'

I really like the delays and reverbs in my old Line 6 bass pod XT but I would like to be able to use two or three delays simultaneously set at different delay times. I bought a Boss DD-20 to use in conjunction with the pod do this, but I find this pedal a bit underwhelming for the price and it would be great to have the ability to do this on a single device.
Does the M9 allow me to use three of the same effect at once?
