Best Bass Gear under $100

Sign in to disble this ad
what do you consider the 2-3 best bass gear that you can get that cost under $100? these can be effects, new pick ups, new bridges. im looking for best values here. so maybe an effect that isnt the best, but its really good at $80.

Ok, I'm already going outside of your parameters (d'oh!), but the best gear I've invested in so far was a Sonic Research Turbo Tuner (I have the ST-200 stomp box). Cost $129 shipped in the US. Absolutely amazing tuner - I no longer have to pay someone to adjust my intonation (nor play out of tune, ever).

The Real Book. It's a book of jazz standards which has the melodies and chords. And if that prompts you how to learn how to read music so you can play the stuff in that book then it's a double-win, much more valuable than any gadget-dohickey thing you might get for $100 or less.

Just my two cents...

Lessons are great, a setup is great too.
Gear wise I like the zoom b2 multi effects unit for $99. It has decent effect and a great stage tuner, well worth the $99 just for the tuner.

Lessons and setups aside (they're vitally important but don't really qualify as "gear") I would say:
  • Turbo Tuner ($129) - beats the $200 Peterson especially for bass
  • Zaolla Instrument Cable ($125 for 15') - you haven't heard bass until you've plugged your bass straight into your amp or console using this cable.
  • Keith McMillen Batt-O-Meter ($30) - an inexpensive way to check 9V batteries without removing them from pedals or active basses. It gives an estimated battery life in % or hours.
  • Cable Cuffs ($3-$5 each) - a handy and cheap way to keep speaker cables and extension cords wrapped.
  • Hipshot Extender Key ($90-$120) - a fantastic way to handle drop D (I've gone as far as drop C with acceptable results)
  • Comfort Strapp instrument straps ($40-$50) - super comfortable neoprene straps with nylon webbing to prevent stretching. Available in 2 and 3" widths and various lengths
  • T-Rex Fuel Tank Junior ($99) - fantastic power supply for pedals with isolated outputs (no grounding issues) and small enough to fit under a PedalTrain Mini.
  • MacAllan 12 ($40) - good scotch makes every gig more enjoyable (are you listening P&W players?)

+1 for the Vornado. I got one and it became contagious. Now both drummers I work with have them too.
