Best Budget Comp/Limiter for soulful finger picking to funky Mutron

Sign in to disble this ad
I've read many reviews, asked many questions and have only found that: the black finger was not for me, and the Carl Martin sounds great but is currently out of my price range. I am moderately picky about noise which scares me from most reviews. I play mostly finger picking with a bit of slap and love my Mutron III. I would like something to limit the Mutron's volume boost and spikes while maintaining tone. i play Funk, Soul and Jazz. i am looking at these units.

BBE Opto Stomp (is this good for limiting)
Alesis Microlimiter
Alesis Nanocompressor limiter
Personus Bluemax

What do you all think? Reviews for each of these have something a bit wrong with them except the BBE, but I don't know if it would serve as a good Mutron limiter. Anyone with experience or ideas?

Check out the Fodera X_Capliper Compressor. It is the cleanest sounding compressor I have ever owned. Also it can go anywhere from lite/ almost non-existent to heavy sterile over compressed and still sound great.

The Opto Stomp is highly regarded as a good bang for the buck.

I use the boss LMB-3 and if you use the "enhance knob very sparingly it's a good transparent sounding compressor. Also a good cheap comp.

If you haven't already check out bongomania's website,...make sure you do so.

After reading bongomania's reviews, I went with a used Symetrix 501 for about $100 on ebay. I like it very much.

I got mine direct from Mike Pope. He is on here often as "ThePontifO. You can also get ahold of him through his website, michaelpopedesingn.com
