Which delay have the best sound and most suitable for bass?
I saw many people using DD-3 or DD-2. Are they? |

There are three camps of delay enthusiasts: those who love warm, analog and tape-based echos... those who love clean, digital repeats... and those who love delay weirdness (modulated delay, tape deterioration, etc.).
Not to mention, everyone has a different set of ideal features in mind. Some want self-oscillation, while others want tap-tempo, etc., etc.
And most - if not all - delays work perfectly fine on bass.
The DD-3 is popular because it's clean, digital, and basic. Nothing fancy, but it works great.
So... I'd recommend doing a little reading on popular digital and analog delay pedals here in the Effects Forum. You have a lot to learn, and it's well worth exploring. You'd be surprised how many options you have out there.

I've just recently started trying out various delays. I have to say that I really like both digital "clean" delay and analog "dirty/warm" delay. It's really hard to choose just one "best" out of all the different types (and I haven't even gotten my hands on tape or crazy delay effects!). If you could better define what it is you are looking for in a delay pedal, I'm sure we could point your searches in the right direction. |

| | | | Err, both Analog and Digital I want to try.
How about BOSS DD2,DD3 and DD7 for digital and Ibanez AD9 for Analog?
Are they great delay pedals? Or any better than them? |

Another one to add to your list is the Line 6 echopark and Marshall echohead. Both have champions and haters
Also, what price range are you looking at?

| | | I really like my Ibanez DE-7. www.myspace.com/prettypinkvampire
There's a clip there... called "Mars, but with hookers" that uses the DE7 (and an MXR Blue Box).
That said, I plan in the future to replace it with the Electro Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man... and the Stereo one... with all the nifty features.

Theres a plethora of posts and reviews of delay pedals out there, infact, probably too many! As mentioned, narrow down your desicion with what you need, and then take it from there.
The Guyatone MD3 gets a hell of alot of thumbs up as a very good "Does what it says on the tin" delay pedal, and If I didn't own the EHX #1 Echo, then I certainly would own one of them. |

Lottsa tweakability, even gets a good analog delay impression, plus, added weirdness on demand. To me, that's a full featured pedal. Otoh, I'd like a Blackbox Quicksilver for it's very unique weirdness, too. Just throwing it out there.

| | all your bass are belong to us | | Join Date: Mar 2008 Location: Newnan | | | dude. get an ibanez de7. i have owned quite a few delay pedals...including some of the nicer analog (dmm, boss dm3) and the analog simulation on the de7 just made the sound i wanted to hear better...
i still have a dd20 for tap tempo, looping, and presets but the de7 is my "go to" delay. it'll give you a good feel for an "analog" and a digital delay as far as what they're supposed to sound like. then you can buy an expensive analog delay later on if thats the sound you want. |

Redangel, just do a search and stop being lazy. There's literally HUNDRED of threads on delay recommendation. At the end you're gonna realize it's all subjective so just do your own damn research.

Asking for a best delay is like asking for the best type of booze. They'll all get you drunk but they may taste different, and you may have particular tastes that are your own and no one else's. What's the point? |

As for pedals, I'd say the Eventide Time Factor is heads above anything else I've tried -- it can do everything I could think of, plus a bit more (excluding that golden ratio thing the Pigtronix Phi Echolution does). It does become more subjective at reasonable prices though.
That said, I'm not sure I've come across a bad delay pedal and everyone will love at least one of them. I use a DD-6, an EHX Deluxe Memory Man and a Korg Kaoss Pad 3 for my delay, and they're all fantastic in their own ways. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
