Hey guys. so ive been searching for the perfect metal/punk bass tone and just picked up a sansamp bass driver after seeing a couple bands using them along with other distortion/overdrive pedals. when i got home i was comparing the sansamp and the odb-3 im currently using, and then tried them together and WOW. incredible tone. but the screaming feedback was a little overbearing. anybody ever tried this combination? or have any suggestions as to what pedal would go well with the sansamp? im looking for a really dirty distortion. |

I've heard these and personally used them with T21 and they seem to mesh well.

| | | This is the best bass distortion tone ever. Death From Above 1979 - Dead Womb recorded live at Lollapalooza, August 6th, 2011 - YouTube
To get something similar, try moving your pedal combo to the effects loop and adding a chorus pedal to your signal chain to add more texture. If it still sounds mishmashy you can lower your pickup on your bass or raise your action. Just my two cents for getting an epic distortion tone

| | | | Well damn, there you go OP. I really insist on using a chorus with your distortion tho if you want some glimmering highs to mix with your guitarist's overtones. I myself use the same 810s cab and acoustic control amp as the DFA dude for my distortion. I play in a shoegaze band that has all the distortion on the bass, so it does the job almost too nicely

I use a hartke vxl bass attack preamp pedal and a digitech xbd bass overdrive/distortion pedal and they sound totally awesome together. |

Mysticboo recorded a sound sample of the electro-harmonix little big muff with a sansamp bass driver made a pretty cool sound combining those pedals. here's the link to that sound sample. SoundClick artist: Mysticboo - Welcome to the mind of a madman. |

| | | | I used to use a Big Muff in front of my BDDI (both Bass Big Muff and the Black Russian). While they sounded awesome, they never really cut through in a band mix. So I bought an MXR Blowtorch. It's more of a fuzzpedal, so maybe not what you're looking for.
I have read good things about the Darkglass Microtubes B3K. Check it out in the forums here or on youtube.

+1 to Tech21's own XXLB.
Adjust the BDDI to a high setting where it breaks up and distorts a little on its own then slam it with more distortion from the XXLB. Crunchier than a box of hard cereal without any milk.

Also, the T-Rex Mudhoney sounds kickass slamming into a BDDI.
