Best distortion pedal for keeping low end?

Sign in to disble this ad
Whats the best distortion pedal? alot of people say the pro co rat but it's pretty dirty and you loose lots of low end. The boss odb seems like a logical choice. whats comparable?

Split your singal into 2 or more parallel signals. Run one clean and with plenty of low end. Run one dirty with the mids turned up. then mix them back together and run it into your amp.

This thread is relevant to my interests. So I often hear a blend is really necessary to keep a good low end. I've gathered that the VT is king, funky people seem to like the brown dog, fuzz love the rat but start down that road on muff. Way Huge, Pickle Pie, wooly mammoth, sometimes even the fulltone have their own cult following.

wow. not to be rude, but the Bass Big Muff is HORRIBLE. just awful. decent when used by yourself, in the bedroom, complete mud when used with others.

for OD, if you like the Rat check out Fuzzrosicous's Rat Tail. Jimmy from OneBadShoe is working on a Rat also. the Fulltone OCD and Bodgan's Polish Love and Polish Hate are pretty awesome. Ryan (Fuzzrocious) is actually discontinuing the Rat Tail, but you can find some used and his Dark Driving is pretty damn angry too. Brian from SmallSound/BigSound (his Team Awesome Fuzz Machine DESTROYS) has an overdrive called the **** Overdrive that looks really, REALLY good too.

if you're worried about losing low end, a blend is key. there are a LOT of fuzzes that are awesome that have a blend on them, but it sounds like you're looking for an OverDrive more.

Bass big muff sounds like dying cats to me. I use a little big muff with the tone turned all the way down.

so, just IME, the Tronographic Rusty Box is a more delicious preamp/dirt box than the VT. i've had the original VT and the VT Deluxe, didn't really dig them. the Rusty Box is DELICIOUS.

the Rat is an overdrive, not a fuzz, so it's going to have a very different character. the Brown Dog is a super gated, more synthy type of fuzz. the Way Huge Swollen Pickle is a nice fuzz, but Matt at Wren And Cuff makes a version of it that has a blend and it's so, SO much better. Wooly Mammoth and Musket V2 are INSANE for wall of fuzz type doomy doom doom stuff.

gnAr.

i don't think a blend is always necessary. it used to be back in the day before dedicated bass distortion pedals, but now, there are so many pedals built for bass that don't really require blending, or they have it built in.

I have a lot of practical experience using the VT pedal in a group setting.
It keeps the low end.
'nuff said.

The Musket V2 has massive low-end. It destroys the Bass Big Muff, imo. Also, it has the mids control to cut through the mix and the focus control to dial in more low-end or a more hard-edged sound. Very versatile and massive sounding muff-clone.

On of thes two you'll find when going to products/effects for guitar and bass... I think the silverstone, is the best I have heard.
