Best Effect to Boost/Fatten Sound?

Sign in to disble this ad
G'day guys,

I play in a 3 piece and I'm looking for a pedal that I can use to boost and fatten my sound when the guitarist is soloing.

I'm thinking maybe just a graphic like a Boss GE7 or similar. Does anyone have any suggestions?

that is what I use and I would NEVER switch to any other sort of boost pedal. It works wonderfully fattening and enriching my sound and can be used as a volume boost if I want to.

There are other less expensive ones, but this is the one I love:

I use a boring old Boss OC-2 octave.
2 octaves down -off.
1 octave down -at 12 o'clock.
Dry volume -3 o'clock.
Turn up dry for more boost.

you could try octave down - faves around here are the boss oc2/3, micro pog, but i love my DOD octoplus.
octave up - Akai Unibass pricey as they are discontinued, but totally worth it!
fuzz - so many options. i use either a MIJ Boss HM2, MXR blowtorch, or Bass big muff
in addition to the effects options here, you could play slightly differently in the solo sections, and therefore fill ing the sound that way.
if you need any examples, just check some live sabbath. Geezer is an expert with this.

Similar situation in another thread this morning...
Look into a Big Muff (anything but Black Russian, LBM, and NYC) and an octave up and/or octave down pedal. A Big Muff + Tycobrahe Octavia clone will let you shine through significantly, IMHO. A micro pog will give you octaves up and down w/ or w/out a dry signal.

+1 to Octave

I have an EBS Octabass that sounds awesome. I usually have the dry signal at full, octave at about 1pm and range at mid. Flip the switch to low and turn the octave up and it can get monstrous!

I've always wanted to try a Micro Pog as well.

Another thought is perhaps trying a Sansamp Bass Driver or Aphex Bass Xciter to beef up your low end and tune your sound a little bit. I've got a Bass Driver waiting for me at GC, picking it up after work. I could record some clips for you if you like?
