Best Effects under $100 new or used?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have limited funds but love new effects. Anyone have suggestions?

My current board: Digitech Bass Synth Wah, Boss DS-1 (modded for bass by me), DOD FX25b, EHX Micro Qtron, EHX Bassballs (russian black and blue verison), morely volume/wah, and Line 6 DL4.

I love making crazy sounds with my bass (my bandmates do too). Let me know what other pedals I can add to my arsenal!

My favorite in the small/cheap range is the Guyatone Tz-2 "The Fuzz". It does a pretty convincing Superfuzz impression, especially considering how cheap and small it is.

if you like making crazy noise and want pedals on the inexpensive side, check out Devi Ever pedals, tons of great fuzz pedals and a lot of them can be had for at/under 100

The question is, best at what?

Lowest price for a used (excluding all other factors) pedal would probably be something like current production BOSS/DigiTech/Dunlop/EHX/Ibanez/MXR pedals. There's so many of them out there, and since they are still in production the used prices are relatively low once the market has been thoroughly saturated with them.

Lowest price for new pedals (excluding all other factors) would be Behringer/Danlectro.

Everything else is fairly subjective. (IMHO)

I'm looking for *quality* pedals at a decent price... none of that behringer crap!

i'm thinking more along the lines of phaser, delay, chorus, flange, octave, etc.

thanks guys!

EHX Memory Toy is a great delay right at about $100. Danelectro Cool Cat Chorus sounds awesome and is cheap both new and used. I'm not big on flangers, and not sure you'll find a decent octaver under $100, unless it is used.

like i said in the title, used is fine... i'm just looking for as many suggestions as I can find to give me some ideas! I am not sure about used prices (i.e. don't know what is a good price vs. rip off)

any old DOD pedals that go for cheap but sound great? other old pedals that wont empty my bank account?

i'll check out the memory toy, thanks!

DOD's have a crappy bypass, but I love their pedals anyway. Many recommend their FX-72 flanger or FX35 Octoplus. I had a FX53 Classic Tube that I liked, but it sucked some low end. I've been thinking about going on a binge and true bypassing a bunch of them.

For phaser I recommend a Small Stone. Cheap, thick, and awesome.

then maybe you should look at the classifieds for effects here, craigs list, and various other sites like Musiciansfriend... do some of your own research, don't expect us to list off every pedal in the world for you.

When you find something that tickles your interest, search the effects forum for threads about it, or post your own...

EHX's Stereo Electric Mistress, Memory Boy, and Bass Big Muff are all quite nice.

I'm certainly not saying that you should buy Danlectro or Behringer pedals by any stretch (I certainly do not, nor have I. Ever.). I'm simply listing them to be helpful to others should they be looking to stretch their dollars.

That being said, here are some suggestions for the pedals that you have listed that you can use to start searching (some may be a little more than $100 new or used):

Chorus: MXR ZW-38 Black Label Chorus, EHX Stereo Electric Mistress, MXR M-148 Micro Chorus, Ibanez CS-9 Chorus, Hardwire CR-7 Chorus, EHX Stereo Clone Theory, Dunlop Univibe Stereo Chorus, EHX Small Clone, Modtone Aqua Chorus, BOSS CH-1, BOSS CEB-3, DigiTech XBC Bass Multi Chorus.

Delay: Modtone Vintage Analog Delay, MXR M-169 Carbon Copy, BOSS DD-3, EHX #1 Echo, EHX Memory Boy, EHX Memory Toy, DigiTech Digi Delay, Ibanez AD-9.

Flanger: EHX Stereo Electric Mistress, MXR M-152 Micro Flanger, BOSS BF-2, BOSS BF-3, Ibanez FL-9, DigiTech XTF Turbo Flanger,

Phaser: EHX Small Stone, EHX Nano Stone, MXR M-107 Phase 100, MXR EVH Phase 90, Modtone Atomic Phaser, MXR CSP-105 Phase 45 RI, MXR M-101 Phase 90, MXR CSP-026 Vintage '74 Phase 90, BOSS PH-3, DigiTech XHP Hyper Phase,

Octave: BOSS OC-2, BOSS OC-3, MXR M-288 Bass Octave Deluxe, EHX Octave Multiplexer.

Synth/Envelope Filter: DigiTech XBW Bass Micro Synth, EHX Micro Q Tron, BOSS AW-3, EHX Dr. Q, EHX Nano Dr. Q, EHX Bassballs, EHX Nano Bassballs, MXR M-188 Bass Auto Q, Guyatone WR-3, DOD FX25.

That should be enough to get you looking.

whoa man, whats with the hate? i have done just what you have said, but I was just throwing this thread out to see if there were any little known pedals that I hadn't come across. Not asking anyone to do research for me, just thought some other members might have experience with a certain pedal they might highly reccommend!

and really, if you dont like my thead, why even bother posting to it? isnt there something more constructive you could be doing than telling me to do my own research? like practicing scales or something...

lately i bought a used death metal distortion (dod fx86b) for a few euros and i'm quite impressed. no boutique overdrive, but a responsive distortion with lots of low end and 3-band eq. it even can self-oscillate at low volumes. so, nice sound besides the bypass…

some of the most useful pedals i own didn't cost more than 100 $ used: fx25b, oc-2, turborat

Funny thing is, I completely forgot about that thread, and I'm one of the contributors.

Sad thing about this? I had the chance to buy three of them brand new for $250 and passed on it because I thought they wouldn't sell.
