Best EQ settings for certain basses...

Sign in to disble this ad
In your opinion, what EQ settings best suit certain types of basses? For instance I own a 2005 Fender Jazz and find that it's midrange response is almost too high, so I roll the mid's off but boost the high and low mids very slightly.

I thought this might be a good reference for those looking to get the best out of their bass, or just experiment with EQ settings that other bassists on the board use. Also a good place to ask questions like how to get a good funk sound out of a certain bass.

My question would be, what kind of EQ settings do you guys use to get the most out of your accoustic basses?

TBH, each case will be so different (different strings, different playing styles, different amps and cabs, different ears hearing it all) that there's pretty much no point to what you're suggesting. What works great for you will probably not work for the next guy- not because you're in any way wrong, but because you're using different gear in a different room and you have different tastes and expectations than the next guy.

"A good funk sound" is one where a really funky player lays it down. End of story.

I'm not saying this stuff to be a jerk, but it's the truth.

If you are playing at home you can just use the eq until it "sounds good".

As soon as you are playing with other musicians at a decent volume you have to factor in the acoustics of the room you are playing in and how you fit into the mix with the other instruments, all of this while still getting something that "sounds good" to you.

If you use a Jazz bass with a midscooped amp in a band you might have a hard time hearing yourself.
