Best Fuzz to compliment/contrast a Wrenn and Cuff Pickle Pie B?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey Guys,

I've been reading alot about fuzz pedals in recent weeks and just ordered a Pickle Pie after being very impressed with the demos I heard. I've been a long time overdrive user and have been pushing my Fulltone Bassdrive and Xotic BB Preamp pedals into some noisier tones in recent months and decided to move into the very complex and boutique world of fuzz What I would love to do is have the Pickle Pie cover the Big Muff end of the spectrum tonally and maybe add something else that offers me a different type of raw fuzz tone.

Are there any Pickle Pie users out there using a second fuzz? I'd be really interested to know how you utilise it and what variations there are out there for fuzz users.

Thanks.

While I don't have one yet (Taylor Livingston is making one for me), I bet the Iron Ether Oxide fuzz would be most excellent.

Similarly, I have the Musket v2 for my muff-ish fuzz and Mastotron to contrast that with Synthy Gated fuzz tones.

I'm going to be trying the Oxide after a few pay checks to see if the Mammoth tones in the Oxide can beat my Mastotron.

I'm using a Musket for my Muff tones, and I have a Devi Ever Bass Fuzz for the synthy/gated end of things.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I really like the look of the Oxide and am probably going to go in that direction.

I was also really pleased to see a Dave Hall (DHA) recommendation too. I have two DHA pedals on my board - A VT1EQ and also the VT1 MK3 Overdrive. They are fantastic pedals but are gigantic and each require their own unique power source. I know the Fuzzy Feeling doesn't but I think I have a Mk3 that can get me close to that tone. I will always retain the VT1EQ for instant tube tone but I think the MK3 is going to make way for two fuzz pedals just purely due to it's size and power requirements

I bet you could power both of those DHA VT1s from the same supply if you got little daisy chain / splitter lead.

LOVE my PPB (Pickle Pie B). after going through a bunch of fuzzes (Musket, Devi Ever Super Massive Black Hole, crappy CRAPPY EHX Bass Big Muff etc) i ended up falling in love with the Way Huge Swollen Pickle. then got a PPB and it's just that times 3. great pedal. it's my main fuzz.

i do run a Heliotrope for more bit-crushy/ring modded fuzz, an Ugly Face for this weird nasty electro fuzz-with-filter sound, and an Oxide in a loop with a Cygnet and a Xerograph.

the Oxide is DEFINITELY the fuzz with the widest range of tones i've seen. Small Sound/Big Sound's Team Awesome Super Fuzz is up there too tho. that thing is a fuzzy BEAST. but Taylor really did something special with the Oxide. it's pretty amazing.
