Ive been looking now for a while for the best fuzz pedal i can find and so far all i can find that people say is good is the big muff. i want to know what the best fuzz would be for me?
i play a traben array obsession active/ passive into a Ampeg BA115HP 220 Watt Bass Amp.
i live in the UK and don't have allot of money to spend
also what do people think a of having two big muffs, stupid question just want to know what people think?

| | | | If it's not going to be too expensive. I love the sound of an Ibanez FZ7 with the damage knob set on 100% going into an EQ with boosted lows and the highs cut slightly. Otherwise a Wooly Mammoth but that's properly too expensive for you.

For serious cheapest prices, Google and use the search function here mercilessly for sound clips, then buy one second hand either here, or gumtree, or evilbay. There are more big muff clones in existence than there are people on the planet, so it's always a good place to start, and if you find anything you don't like, sell it and research again into something that'll fix that problem for you.
I started with a Blackout Musket v2, then moved on to a Fuzzrocious Grey Stache, as I needed to be heard over loud geetars at the time. Ehx Bass Big Muff gets a lot of love from some too. Most important thing about a fuzz; other than bass players, there's a good chance nobody will notice the subtleties, so long as it works.

for me it's Wren & Cuff Pickle Pie B, Iron Ether Oxide or SmallSound/BigSound Team Awesome Fuzz Machine all the way.
if you say what TYPE of fuzz sound you're looking for you'll probably get more constructive answers instead of people just chiming in with what's their favorite. |

Without knowing that, here are some great choices:
-EH Bass Muff PI. It's inexpensive, it works well has lots of options and sounds. It's very very close to A Black Russian Muff Version 7 (the last one they made). I had both so I had a chance to A/B them.
- Swollen Pickle from Way Huge is more expensive but also very good. A more articulated version of fuzz.
- Barber Trifecta delivers an incredibly good version of the Colorsound Tonebender.
- Wren and Cuff fuzzes also sound very good.
- Fuzzrocious Grey Stache (the original one not the plus) is also a superb pedal.
When it's all said and done, I think the current EH Bass Muff is a great place to start and it delivers a lot of value for the price.

| | | | My vote is still for the Boss FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz. It's like a fudge laser.
Actually it is a fudge lazer. I love it

| | | | i just got the swollen pickle for $85 used. took a while to get a good fuzz tone without compromising the low end but now i love it. my only complaint is that it sometimes clips when i play actively. |

But my old standby is an early 70's Maestro Fuzz (in a box somewhere in the garage), the other was an old microsynth which mysteriously vanished. The square wave 'fuzz' was simply awesome.

I finally got an Oxide on the weekend and I am in monsterous love. I saw Kyuss Lives last weekend & have been playing a few of their songs since & my Nick Oliveri impression sounds so massively-punchy-fuzzy epic! Incredible!
I have a way huge swollen pickle I have to invest some time into with the internal trimpots. Haven't got the sound I want yet. Must hunt down that thread with SP settings ...
I also had the BBM for a while & was happy with it when on my own, but I felt my sound disappeared from the mix when jamming.
Keep us updated on your journey.

You can get whatever fuzz level you want, and can choose the freqs you want accentuated. The EQ section is nice, too. In the end, you just have to try different pedals with your guitar and your rig and pick what you like.
On another note, at practice the other night my guitar player plugged me into his electro harmonix micro synth....awesome...but not what I wanted exactly. |
