I have a show in three weeks and I need a octave for a good 8 string sound that has decent tracking, with out any extra noise or volume drops or low end loss. recommendation wanted. My budget is around a 120.00 or less. What is my best bet for this price range and why? |

I might be able to swing something I have a friend that works at GC. do I need octave up and down? could a get a decent sound out of the cheaper Multiplexer? if my buddy can't pull some strings?
I am looking to get something like this or close http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJW0y...eature=related
Or would I be better off just getting another Boss pedal or something else?
What are the pros and cons of these two?

Analogue octave doublers tend to sound a bit thick - which is nice usually, but if you're going for an 8-string sound with a lot of treble on it, you might find it's not quite the sound you're after.
The Micro POG on the other hand sounds a bit weedy to my ears, but does give a better approximation of the sound of an 8-string, and of course you get the bonus of polyphonic tracking, which you won't get on those cheaper units.
The Boss OC-3 could be worth a punt. It does offer polyphonic tracking but people tend to prefer the sound of the older mono OC-2. I haven't used one myself so I'm no judge, but it should be easy to find one in a store somewhere you can try out. |

It is really, really, important to play with extra clean technique as it gets easily confused if you're playing sloppily.

Great pedal. Only minor thing for me is slight volume drop when used. But still a nice tone on bass. |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Dana Point Ca | | | Octave update. Well I started out on the cheap Tried the Boss OC-3 did not like fell apart on anything below the 12th fret on the E string which I learned is common from BOO on analog octave pedals. Next was the Diditech BSW in octave mode did not like it. then I tried the micro pog thinking being more expensive it would be good, octave down was ok, but did not like it either very synthy IMO. It did have some cool Deep Purple organ type sounds with octave down and octave up together, but not what I am looking for.
Went to the EBS site and seems they have a new version of the Octa Bass that is true bypass. I know it is risky buying based on clips, but the sound clips sounded good to me, so I pulled the trigger and ordered one from Bass Exchange, with Tax it came out to 173.19 total. I should get it in a couple of days. After I get it and work with it a bit, I will post again with a mini review and my thoughts good or bad. It was more then I wanted to spend so I hope I like it. |

If you do like it, be sure to check out the Octave Multiplexer sometime, too - that way, you've had your hands on the entire variety of readily available, non-boutique octavers out there.

i loved my MicroPOG, but my guitarist loves it more, so i sold it to him,
i thought the Octave-up on the BMS is freaking sweet tho, not at all what the OP is looking for, more of an octavia style, but hot damn i could decide whether i liked that more or the 'Square Wave'
for me the OC2 tracked pretty much flawlessly for me, i had less pleasing results with the OC3 (which i owned first)
does the Octabass do oct-up too?
